I don't know and I don't care. He made a personal choice about his own career. ESPN didn't force him to, he decided.

he probably never expected an actual nazi/klan smorgasbord rally would take place at the location of the football game he was going to call over a shaky historical figure that he bares the same name as

I think they should remove all people with middle eastern style names from the coverage bc their names remind me of the horror my ancestors faced on 9/11

No one fricking knew who was on the call for the UVA football game in the first place. Just make the change behind the scenes and no one will ever know or care.

But then they wouldn't get praised for being so tolerant and understanding of ppl's feelings, that's very important to the whole tolerance crowd

ETA: disregard, apparently it was leaked and they didn't announce it

or the guy calling the game decided he didn't want to do it because he didn't want to get roasted on Twitter

This doesn't make sense if you read ESPN's statement. ESPN says that Robert Lee was asked to switch assignments and eventually he agreed. Sounds like ESPN had to convince him to switch not that he was the one who approached ESPN.

Clay has gone way too hard to the hole over this story. ESPN doesn't have any credibility to earn the benefit of the doubt here but Travis is acting like he caught ESPN red handed. He has been on any TV show that will have him.

When he's keeping both feet on the ground, Clay can give really good takes. Some of his anti-pc columns are really good. The problem is he is becoming self aware and is now trying way too hard to promote his brand. He's also really bad at being a prisoner of the moment. The guy spent a week last month talking about how his family got removed from a plane for having head lice. WGAF.

Clay made a good point on fox news last night. What announcer who is making chicken scratch, and is basically a nobody is going to tell the mothership "no, I am going to stay on this current assignment" and call the game anyway. Espn is making it look like he chose, but they put the pressure on him, because they were afraid of being roasted on twitter. Which these days is the same thing and being drawn and quartered at the town square in front of everyone.

They're going to bring in someone who can bring both sides together, Rush Limbaugh & Rachel Maddow, will work the game.
