Would you take that deal?

ESPN has offered Sage Steele $501,000 and to cover “reasonable” attorney fees to settle the “SportsCenter” anchor’s lawsuit filed in the aftermath of her comments about the network’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

Steele sued ESPN and parent company Walt Disney Co. in April 2022 over allegations her First Amendment and Connecticut’s free-speech rights were violated.

In the Connecticut state court filing last week, lawyers for ESPN and Disney wrote that the offer should “not be construed as an admission that defendants are liable for any of the claims asserted in this action, or that plaintiff has suffered any damage as a result of any of those claims.”

quote:

In the lawsuit, Steele alleged she was retaliated against after the comments she made on former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler’s podcast in September 2021. During the podcast, Steele called Disney’s vaccine mandate “sick and scary.”

Steele also drew criticisms for questioning why former President Barack Obama identified as Black in the U.S. Census during the same appearance.

Take that shot to trial and get to discovery so they can call Disney execs to the stand.

Discovery would be really valuable. We're talking about a corporate behemoth that was squashing discussion about the virus and vaccinations that affected everyone

Because any white employee would’ve gotten fired. There are unwritten rules to the game.

What has she said that's "conservative?"

Questioning authority and standing up to corporate used to make people cool with liberals. Used to.

Disney can string this thing out for years. Going to cost her a ton to fight this.

I don't see how politics can be shoehorned to Steel's point of view. I also don't see how not being raised by Obama's black father makes him non-black. That's just silly. He says he's black on his census even though he is biracial. Hardly unusual as Sage should know from personal experience.

I thought she made an interesting point when she called out these female reporters who want to dress in a sexual manner and then become offended when they get the wrong attention. And frankly, not everyone is happy about mandated vaccinations.

I'd say she was on point on 2 out of 3 issues.

She just said it was odd that he (Obama) went with his dad’s race considering his dad had basically no involvement in his life. Sage’s dad is black (and in the military) and her mom is white. She posts a lot about her parents and her relationship with them.
