"football only" members like Virginia Tech and Miami

Miami was a full member, but your point stands. The
Catholic 7 wanting an unreasonably large piece of the football pie was a tense situation.

Answer the question this way: If the Big East signs the contract with ESPN, do Pitt and Syracuse leave for the ACC?

I think it's still possible they would've left. ACC was still going to offer more money and the changes going on with the big football conferences.

Notre Dame had a big role in the demise of the Big East. They were the most vocal about turning the ESPN deal pulling strings with their football schedule.

Seeing present day Lou Carnesecca really made me sad.

Rollie Massimino coaches at a small school right by where I live called Northwood. I see him kicking around a few local bars. He looks pretty good compared to Lou.

Wilbon ruined the entire thing by constantly injecting race into it

I was big sports fan during those days, but I was too young to know about the racism issues surrounding Georgetown. In my opinion, judging from that documentary, it was as if Georgetown embraced the "bad guy" role and encouraged some of the hate directed towards them. Of course it's wrong for the racism to creep in, but the video clips shown on the documentary showed that they instigated fights on the court, threw elbows, taunted opponents, etc. Georgetown could have been a more respected foe if they would have just played basketball and left the anger out of it. Think about it, when do you ever hear opponents openly say that they are rooting against a conference partner of theirs?

He didn't inject race into it. Race was there. You can't really talk about Georgetown in the 80s without bringing up race. It was a pretty big deal, embraced by John Thompson. Hell, remember his Prop 48 protests? If anything, they downplayed how central race was to those Georgetown teams (and how odd that is, considering Georgetown is a lilly white school of privilege).
