Former Ravens star free safety Ed Reed will officially announce his retirement Thursday afternoon during a press conference at the team's training complex.

The Ravens later announced the pending retirement, confirming a Baltimore Sun report.

The Ravens are holding a press conference Thursday with Reed that includes general manager Ozzie Newsome, team president Dick Cass and coach John Harbaugh.

One of the top defensive players in NFL history, Reed is expected to be inducted into the Ravens' Ring of Honor. Reed is eligible to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in five years.

I thought he retired before he signed with the Texans. Because he sure didn't play football for them.

My favorite raven. The buzz around Raven stadium his rookie year when he was starting to show his skill is something I'll never forget.

He was my favorite player growing up. Should've done this after Super Bowl though.
