Dwight Howard,.. the quiet cancer

He went to the Magic, they had one lucky Finals run due to a KG injury and Turkoglu playing out of his mind.
Then he goes to the Lakers and they are esteemed and praised like a potential 70 win team, proceed to go 47-35 and get swept out of the playoffs.
He enters a good situation in Houston, they go 56-26 and make the WCF and get dominated in a bizarre year for the West were difference between 2 and 6 seed was 1 game.
Now they're 38-41 and will fail to make the playoffs, and he's on the wrong side of 30. Houston was projected to be a 55-60 win team this year... just like LA was projected to be a 60-65 win team with the addition of Howard and Nah.
This guy is a loser and needs to stick to praising God and impregnating teenagers. His athletic talent was high but his attitude and mentality are that of a non-winner.

meh. that laker team was good when he was healthy. they had something like the 4th best record in basketball after the new year and a lot of people thought they could possibly be a tough playoff out until kobe destroyed his achilles and then every single other guard on the roster went down that last week of the season
andrew goudelock and darius morris started games 3 and 4 of that series
this year has been a cluster for the rockets but he was defensively the anchor of those magic teams and kept the lakers afloat until we went on our run to get into the playoffs

He was the defensive anchor, he was a defensive beast in his prime.
But they honestly only had 2 relevant seasons. When they made the Finals in 2009 and when they made the ECF in 2010 and flamed out v the Celtics. He's never been on a 60 win team even.
Before and after that, he really hasn't been on a title contending team.
He is a beta

He was on a WCF team last year. Is that not considered a title contending team?

They were in the upper echelon of teams. Fact that they were in the WCF kind of validates them being a title contender last season.

Don't really agree with the OP but did chuckle at this

Sounds like a great career to me .
Takes a lot to go right to actually win a championship and he wasn't exactly done any favors by the Orlando FO after the Finals appearance. Since then he's suffered several serious injuries most notably the one that resulted in back surgery.
quote:
I asked if he could send it to me, but he declined, clearly trying to avoid adding to the media storm that has surrounded his season in L.A.
“Here, I'll show it to you, though,” he said after thumbing through some photos on his iPhone.
And there it was. Disgusting. It looked like an elongated piece of chicken fat, a yellowish-white mass, laid out next to a ruler and measuring approximately 5 1/2 inches.
“Yeah, that was the part on my nerve they had to pull out,” Howard said.
Howard's teammate was right -- the piece that came off the disk in his back was revolting.
“It was pretty nasty,” World Peace said. “I don't even know how the hell he played. If he showed you the picture of that thing that came out of his back, the general public would take back all of the comments they made about him.”

Any will tell you in no Dwight apologist. He is a huge bitch but people forget how dominant he was.

Making the WCF is considered a failure? Yeah Golden State kicked their arse in it, but they still were one of the last 4 teams playing. I wouldn't consider that a failure. Dwight also played very good in the playoffs last year.
I wouldn't blame this year on Dwight either, the whole team has been complete shite this year. He isn't exactly playing at a superstar level this year but he's also not playing terrible.
He's also the one on the team that goes out and does way more local community outreach than anyone on the Rockets and by all accounts seems like a good guy.
I don't know, I just have a hard time blaming the Rockets issues on Dwight Howard.

I feel like dwights baggage has increased every year in the league, but his production peaked back in 09. He just causes more headaches now than he's worth. I'm sure the rockets are giddy at the idea of him opting out of his $22M option for next year

Houston was overrated because they overachieved the year before. This was the Houston that was expected last year.

I'm leaning he goes to Miami somehow. It's the only team that makes sense. Who else is out there?

For most teams, no. But every year clutch city has one goal and that's to hoist a trophy, anything less and that's just a failure.

The team this year is unexplainably bad.
My guess is that getting to the WCF last season went to their head. Then they got Ty Lawson and I think they really were feeling good about themselves. They forgot that the reason they got so far last season was because they had a chip on their shoulder and they played their arse off. The intensity and focus they played with last season is worlds different from their lackadaisical play this season.
I think this season they didn't prepare properly in the off-season and thought they were just going to coast to another deep playoff run.
That lazy mentality, plus injuries, plus trying to integrate Ty Lawson into the offense caused them to get off to a real bad start. And the first 20 games were their easiest of the season. Getting off to that bad start just ended up spiraling out of control.
