Does Mark Helfrich become Larry Coker from here?

Saw several posts about this on Twitter last night.
Dan Greenspan @DanGreenspan
Now we find out whether or not Mark Helfrich is Larry Coker 2.0. Got to replace Mariota and overcome the scars of what might have been.
Brian McDonald @sackedbybmac
Told @themightygwinn earlier that Helfrich was Larry Coker 2.0, mediocre coach winning w/ someone else's players. My apologies to Mr Coker
Max Meyer @TheMaxMeyer
I'm still convinced of the Mark Helfrich-Larry Coker analogy. Coaches that were handed keys to a Lamborghini & were told not to crash it.
And on and on. Just a few of them.
What do you think? Right now Oregon is 19th in recruiting for 2015 according to Rivals. They obviously lose Mariota...it'll be interesting to see what happens with them next year.

Don't you have to win a title to be him?

Does this really matter? It's not like they are 119th.

I think Chip Kelly left right before he finished his masterplan, and Helfrich got to benefit from that.

Just figured I'd throw it out there.

In his 2nd year he won the Pac12 and beat the defending NC in a playoff game. Hard to start the Coker references at this point.
People said the same thing about Les. It happens to everyone thst follows a big winner in college. It is hard for any coach to sustain high levels over a long period of time, much less his successor

I'm not saying recruiting doesn't matter, but I think the difference between #10 & #19 recruiting class probably is pretty slim.

Doubtful.
He's the third consecutive coach to hired from within at Oregon (all offensive coaches), so there is nothing to worry about schematically. He also improved from a 10 win season to getting to the NC.

Recruiting classes have been slipping. Oregon just had the best team they probably ever will have.

the scheme is fine. the offensive play calling and some of the in game decisions leave something to be desired. he was the right hire since oregon wanted to continue their offensive scheme, but chip kelly was just a better coach. another fair comparison would be frank solich.

I think he's better than Chip Kelly, seriously.
Their issues now are the same as they were under Kelly. What they excelled at then, they're even better at now

I love end-all statements like this.

I knew we'd hear the old... Winning with someone elses players... bullshite. He's won just about as much with those guys as Kelly did.

umm, no. in kelly's last 4 seasons, they played in the rose bowl, the national title game, rose bowl again, then fiesta bowl, going 2-2. helfrich led the team to the alamo bowl last year. helfrich also benefitted this year from stanford coming back down to earth since david shaw is another larry coker clone.

How many consecutive NC does a replacement coach have to win before not being compared to Coker? Two? Three? Seven?
