No debating that Dr. I think if their offense starts clicking then pitching becomes less crucial.

Weak? I feel like if Seattle can maintain at record of 10 games of under .500 or closer, and if Oakland, Texas, and LAA are all battling for the top spot then the AL West is a hell of a division honestly.

Oakland has been struggling. They are going to bow out

13-19 in their last 32 games

Their starting pitching has collapsed. Cespedes and Redick have taken steps backwards after huge years last year.

but their offense HAS been clicking. Outside of Hamilton's struggles, just about everyone on the team is play at or above their projection. Kendrick has an OPS+ of 116. Callaspo has a 107. Trumbo is at a whopping 142. Bourjos is at a 132.

That's four guys hitting well above where most projections would have had them, which more than makes up for Hamilton and even Pujols. And as much as people talk about Trout "struggling", he's hitting 302/378/582 (164 OPS+), which is pretty great.

there's really not a lot of room for the team to improve. If Hamilton and Pujols improve, it's likely that the guys playing over their heads will come back down a bit. It would be shocking if every player played over their heads.

I just don't see that their offense is clicking. They aren't getting anything from their Catcher and when your 2 power hitters aren't doing shite then I'd say you aren't clicking. Trout is only now starting to put up #s. Also, don't forget that Bourjos is hurt as was Callaspo and Aybar.

I'm not sure whether or not they'll make the playoffs...but I hope to hell that they fail. The more frustrated Pujols gets, the more he tries harder, the more he stays in a funk, the more Cardinal nation laughs...

Callaspo and Bourjos have missed time. You can't just look at OPS+ without recognizing a limited number of at bats.

Bourjos has missed half the season and Callaspo has missed a third. Bourjos has played well in 22 games. Let's not try to push a narrative.

Are you really surprised that Trumbo has a high OPS+? He has mammoth power. 125 OPS+ last year with 32 bombs.

It is not like they are all playing all out of their minds.

I know they've missed at bats. I'm just pointing out that Angels fans are only looking at the things going wrong and saying "if we fix that, we'll be awesome" while completely ignoring all of the things going right. They have a lot of guys playing over their heads right now, who likely will regress over a full season.

My issue is you saying "a lot of guys", when in reality there is likely only 1 or 2 playing above where they may be at year's end.

Yes and no. The offense is good enough to win a lot of games by itself. I just think the bullpen will negate a lot of the positives and with no farm players to help out or trade, I'm not sure how much they can improve. I still have the Angels winning around 80-85 games, which would be impressive after their start.

All they need is second wild card, not the division so therefore only 6 games back of that

Why are you so confident? If we learned anything the past few years, then we know Texas is prone to choke at some point in every season.

Bad pitching won't take you very far

Good pitching can carry a team through a slump
