They had to do something. Pederson is hitting .215, barely above the Mendoza line.

quote:

When the Dodgers bolstered their outfield depth by acquiring Curtis Granderson from the Mets on Friday, slumping Joc Pederson's at-bats figured to be limited going forward. That speculation manifested into reality a day later on Saturday, as Pederson was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room for Granderson on the 25-man roster.

Pederson is in the midst of one of the worst career stretches of his young career, having gone just 2-for-41 (.049) with eight strikeouts and four walks over his last 15 games. Second-half struggles have been notorious for the free-swinging slugger, who once ranked as the Dodgers' No. 1 prospect, per MLBPipeline.com. He is a career .203 hitter after the All-Star break.

I mean the Dodgers were bound to have at least one guy who sucked this year.

I fully expect to see him back on the roster for the playoffs.

His numbers haven't been that good

THat's putting it mildly. And he's a .223 career hitter, so his career numbers aren't that good either. I thought this was the year he'd hit around .260 or so. I think he gets replaced by Alex Verdugo next year.

He's been pretty good at the plate for his career. He's just in a death slump right now and is not doing himself any favors by continually tinkering with his swing and has randomly become one of the worst defensive outfielders in all of baseball. I hope he figures it out

He gets on base and hits for power, but he is not a good "hitter" in my opinion

He has been a valuable player at the plate. Idk if that means he's a "good hitter" or not. But until this post ASG slump, hes been a player who you could rely to provide value on offense

That guy had a great first half of his first year. Since that HR derby/All Star week, he's seemed to always be struggling.

He was a 3.5 win player last year

We've got Alex Verdugo coming up next year, and probably Yusniel Diaz (AA) and Jeren Kendall (A) the year after that. All three can play CF, although only Kendall will truly excel there. I like Pederson, but there's no need for the best team in baseball to have to play a CF who's batting .215. Hopefully he figures some things out in AAA in the next couple of weeks.

If anything, verdugo will probably challenge Chris Taylor who has been playing over his head this year

Batting average is just that, batting average. Joc has given us two years of above average performance at the plate with his power and ability to get on base as well as above average defense. This has been an ugly stretch of games, and maybe he never finds it, but I think he's going to be ok and will be back to being a mainstay in the lineup

That's like saying the Cubs had no need for Jason Hayward playing in RF. When your team is that good you can afford that luxury

As for Verdugo, he's so overrated. I don't think he has a spot next year unless a trade happens

Well they just optioned him to the minors today so I guess the Dodgers front office has a different POV
