pete rose is one of the biggest a holes on the planet and redeeming himself is a laughable notion. he thought (and probably still does) he was bigger than baseball and what he did should not be forgiven in his lifetime. when he dies, i would support him to HOF but not before. granted, he was one of the best ball players i ever saw play and i've seen a lot of 'em.

Let the voters decide. If he is eligible for the ballot and gets in, so be it.

I think manipulation of outcomes should be the focus. Sure the temptation is there, but if it can't be shown that he changed outcomes, I think that mitigates to a degree

It's the staunch old guard that cares about these things. If it were up to me, I'd put Bonds in the HOF as well with an asterisk. Rose's accomplishments on the field speak for themselves- he deserves to get in.

It's like writing off anything positive Clinton did in office because he was impeached. No, there were good things and still, that doesn't affect the body of work. It's just noted.

Yes he should be let back in. ONLY for the purposes of HOF. Should still be banned from having a manager or ANY position on a staff.

I'm on board with this. He should be in the HOF IMO.

perhaps, but not while he is breathing. he doesn't deserve to get to enjoy the spoils. 10 years ago i would have never said such a thing, even though i believed he bet on baseball. he vehemently denied gambling on the sport for decades, until it was time to sell some books. he capitalized on it, which makes him a smart business man, but an utterly detestable human being, in my eyes.

so, frick charlie hustle

Yes he should.

As for suffer for his sins...for the love of God?

Baseball isn't religion and the HOF isn't the Vatican. It is full of cheaters, liars, philanderers, racists, and every form of human faults.

I don't care that Pete Rose is boor, a liar, despicable, not very likeable and seems like an arse...

He belongs in the HOF and baseball based on his performance on the field and that is all that matters. This betting on baseball albatross is such false cross born 100 years ago when we didn't think people should be paid to play sports or drink water during training.

I'd be okay with putting him on the HOF ballot as he is banned from baseball, not the Hall. The Hall banned him separately and independently. I'd love for him to be on the ballot and get rejected by the voters. That would make my day.

Posthumously only, he doesn't deserve the satisfaction of knowing he got in.

Betting on baseball may be an "albatross" to you, but it's one of the oldest rules on the books for a reason. Every major league locker room has a sign, prominently displayed, re same. For a reason. Players are cheating with PED's regularly now it seems. There has to be a harsh, strict rule bout betting, with lifetime bans as opposed to 20-50 games, to keep the cheaters in line. Rose,as manager of the Reds, bet on baseball. Rose, as a player, bet on baseball. He admitted it. His ban is for life per the rules. The HOF will be determined by the voters as time goes by & I can see him gaining admission eventually. But I would throw up if I had to watch his acceptance speech if it happens while he's still alive.

Exactly, he was banned for life, the ban should end when his life does.

Still think it's retarded they're skewering him over betting on a game. Unless he influenced the outcome or had some control over it, then it's ridiculous. Lets not sit here and act like Sports isn't whitewashed with illegal gambling and people throwing games...ala the NBA.

he should be banned for the number of years that he lied about betting on the game, then allowed back in for HOF consideration only

Speaking of, Shoeless Joe should be in the HOF. But, if you let him in, you have to let Rose in. I think Rose should be in but more than likely they will wait till he is dead, or a new commissioner wants to make a huge name for himself, which is highly unlikely.
