Playing the same courses
I just looked at the season stats. I did not look at courses as I am on my phone but the kid has played two of the easier courses on tour one of them being a par 70 so I say he has the "edge" there.

I didn't know he missed the cut last week. I was out of the loop last weekend golfing my own ball.

well, duh. but that wasn't really the point was it?

Lee Janzen won two US Oprns and has to qualify to play in the Zurich

He is clearly being given these exemptions because he is 14. I have no problem with this since he is an amateur. But sponsor's exemptions are generally reserved for pros who have always played at that tournament in the past or a local guy. If he were a pro, there would be no reason for him to be given the exemption over anyone else.
It's not because he's 14.....it's because he's 14 and from China

I'm not sure that's the China thing is much of a factor. Is the PGA looking for the Yao Ming fans?

he wouldn't have to qualify if you'd quit shooting chili peppers up his arse

yep, biggest market in the world

Kid handles all of the hype well for only being 14 but I think the spots he gets takes one away from someone who has paid their dues. I'm sure the tour likes all the extra media attention though.

Nah, it a 14 kid from the US qualified for the masters and made the cut, he would have been given the same type of exemptions as this kid. Its just because he has played so good at such a young age. IMHO FWIW ...

Oh I think it's factoring in both that makes him such a big deal....I mean just about every golf company in the world is investing assets into China waiting for the golf boom from a population of a billion potential golfers

I disagree. The attention and invitations he has gotten has zero to do with him being from china. A 14 year old American who plays as well and had accomplished as much and has handled himself as well as this kid would have had the same level of press .. Probably even more ..

Maybe so that's why I asked the question
Posted on 5/22/13 at 10:29 pm to 19thHole
And I totally understand why he is getting them but in no way does he deserve them
Posted on 5/22/13 at 10:57 pm to threeputt
That's kinda harsh. I'd say he deserves them for playing well, but I would also say he isn't the most deserving out of the choices.

Here's another angle that no one has brought up...forget about whether he deserves the sponsors exemptions. The bigger question, IMO, is whether he should be accepting them. IMO, he needs to learn how to dominate the junior events around the world. We all know he has zero chance of winning one if these events; even he realizes it. Play in the Masters since he earned that by winning the Asian amateur, but go back to playing junior tourneys. The experience he's gaining now is meaningless compared to the experience of learning to consistently winning tournaments.
