Teams like Iowa could benefit as they obviously need a talent infusion.

Iowa is the same team. They'll never change or attract premier recruits. The teams that should be better and could benefit would be Illinois, Rutgers, and Maryland in my opinion.

Yes they all do this, it's just the SEC seems to do it more because they have had success the last 10 years.

Of course. If the SEC does well in bowl games, it's proof of conference strength. If they do poorly, bowls are meaningless. If they win the NC, it's SEC dominance. If they lose the NC, it's one good team, but the rest of that conference is terrible. SEC teams win because they're better. Everyone else wins because they're lucky or because the SEC team didn't care. Gotta love college football.

This. I love LSU, but frick the rest of the conference. Bama beating Michigan State does not get players to come to LSU; why is that difficult for SEC fans to understand? LSU beating Bama gets players to come LSU. But Bama beating MSU makes loser, dick riding fans of other programs feel better, so that's great I guess. It's pathetic but those types of fans are shameless anyway. I like college football and watch games from every conference, and I know there's good teams in other conferences, so this constant "football only started in 1998 and only exists in the south" mentally is pathetic and sad. What DisplacedBuckeye wrote is true and is a big reason for my "to hell with everyone in the SEC except LSU" mentality.

they have shown on the biggest stage to not be able to compete with the SEC, now you're trying to say that's not a recruiting tool for all SEC coaches to tout?

It's about getting to the NFL. That is the most powerful tool for recruiting players. I am pretty sure that Nick Saban talks about how many guys are in the NFL as does Les Miles. Then it's about playing time and academics when it comes to recruiting the best players who can get you a title.

I am pretty sure that Michigan State for example in recruiting QBs and RBs talk about Brian Hoyer and Kirk Cousins and Le'Veon Bell and Jeremy Langford and I"m sure Les Miles talks about Gay and O'Dell Beckham a lot more than playing in the SEC.

Uhh....no they don't. The only school I would root for in the Big Ten would be Northwestern. It's hard to root against them.

I hate the stupid pro sec crap. Seriously this has to be one of the stupidest things. So what your rivals beat some team? Who cares? How does that help you in any way shape or form? If anything it hurts you because now that school has an extra card in hand for recruiting. Outside of financials I don't understand the point at all.

If you don't see the benefit to your school by having the rest of the conference teams win, then I can't help you.

Regardless of what you think, it's good to have a strong conference.

Because we know how brutal the SEC is.

People in the Pac12, Big10, ACC, and Big12 don't believe it's that tough.

I enjoy seeing SEC schools beat the crap outta these schools from other conferences because maybe people will realize how brutal it is to play these SEC teams week in and week out.

Being an LSU fan, it makes LSU's record look even more impressive when they can run through teams that beat the crap outta schools from other conferences.

Could not disagree with this more. It is so wrong. It was bad enough during the BCS era, when at least SOS in the regular season was a factor, so rooting for teams you play to be ranked higher at least makes some sense. But that is not the case anymore. SEC teams lost OOC games this year to Memphis, Toledo and Texas Tech. Did that hurt Bama? No. It didn't even hurt LSU in the first playoff rankings.

But rooting for teams you have to compete with for recruits to win bowls and worse National Titles is counter productive. Think we lose guys like Cam Robinson and Landon Collins to Bama if they are not winning NCs? Collins flat out said he loved Bama from watching them beat Texas. Now we have OM winning Sugar Bowls and battling them for recruits. So short sighted.

SEC pride is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in college football. Why the hell do you want your recruiting rivals to do well?

Screw them.

Louisville was 5th in the ACC and Texas A&M was 9th in the SEC.

If Louisville played the 5th best team in the SEC they would have played Georgia or LSU.

Florida was a completely different team after they lost their QB.

And I don't know what Arkansas has to do with anything considering they haven't played their bowl game yet.

Lets think about this for a second... Ole Miss has NEVER been to Atlanta for the SECCG..And just went to the Sugar Bowl for the 1st time since 1970... You have Miss St. on the rise as well as Arkie.. The SEC west is tough...I want NONE of them to have a chance at ANY of our possible recruits............

I would LOVE to see Clemson beat Bama... I doubt it happens but screw Bama.... They are the enemy........

Speaking of short-sighted...

I'm not talking individual games, I'm talking full seasons...multiple seasons.

lol... Who knows? Maybe they just didn't wan to go to LSU? Not everyone loves LSU... Success breeds success, and playing in a strong conference opens the doors to more athletes from across the country, and not just the Robinson's and Collins' of the world.

But, hey, I guess you'd be okay with being the King of Turd Mountain...some would prefer to play against the best week in/ week out. I guess we're just wired differently.

The SEC thing has absolutely gotten in people's heads in big ten country. Don't deny it. I never used to hear about rooting for conference opponents in bowl games, and now I hear it all the time. Especially in games against SEC teams.

I'm not sure why people pretend this is a new phenomenon. Conference pride has been around as long as conferences.

You can't take what sways one recruit and apply it to all recruits. Some simply won't leave their home state or grow up with a team that they'll go to no matter what. Most kids treat it as a business and try to make a decision that best fits their situation.
