not sure why Dikembe Mutombo would be privy to the results though...

The 76ers hope to strike gold

Philadelphia finished with its worst record yet of the last three "tanking" years by winning only 10 games, and now new team president Bryan Colangelo hopes to be the recipient of the lottery luck that never graced Sam Hinkie. The Sixers' own pick has a 25 percent chance of being No. 1, and if they win it'd be the second straight season and fifth time overall the team with the worst record got the top pick.

If the ping-pong balls bounce the Sixers' way, the best-case scenario involves them winning the lottery while also securing the No. 4 pick by virtue of the Lakers' pick falling outside the top three.

Even if Philadelphia doesn't win the lottery with its own pick, it can still win it in another way. The Nik Stauskas trade with the Sacramento Kings last season gives the Sixers the right to swap picks this year, so if the Kings overcome the odds and win the lottery with their 1.9 percent chance, that top pick goes to Philadelphia.

I can't be mad.. Uncle Stern hooked up the Pels a few years back with Anthony Davis

I'll never get over this, it was talked about all week here in Charlotte prior to the lottery that NO was getting the #1 pick and it happened.

No coincidence there.

Do they not televise it because of how many times they might have to redo it?

Like one of the 250 combinations for the #1 team happening over and over again in the drawing?

it is impossible for 20 bouncing balls to give proper odds needed and %'s of all those teams odds. How the fricking do you make a bouncing ball .8% chance?

What were the odds of NOP winning the lottery that season?

The 76ers were the 1st team to sell their Ad space for the new LOGO...he misunderstood what "being #1st" meant.

Wouldn't the NBA be more likely to rig the draft in the Lakers' favor?

LOL to the dummies who claim they draw it live.

They draw it in back room, with some agency as observer, to make sure shite is on the up and up, meaning we pay them to say it's not rigged.

same logic can be used that the NBA doesnt want the lakers to win the lottery to keep the accusations of rigging being kept to the minimum

Doesn't work like that. It's some combination thing they have going. It makes sense..I haven't read about it in a while though.

So they would rig the draft in order to prevent the perception that they are rigging the draft? Makes sense.

There's a thousand combinations. #1 gets 250 of em (25%) #2 gets 199 combinations (19.9%) and so on.

because the balls have nothing to do with the actual assigning of picks. they take 14 balls numbered 1-14 and then draw 4. they then compare the number combination to a list of all possible combinations and they see which team was assigned that combination. so if the numbers they drew were 1,6,7,5 they would then see who had that combo and thats who gets the pick. the odds dont come from the balls, they come from the amount of number combinations assigned to a team
