What stood out to me is how poorly that article was written. The phrasing and sentence structure is odd and poor. Gary Parrish is a big time CBS writer. Is this what passes for journalism these days? It's like he's trying to keep up with the 22 year old writers out of college who write in this shitty style.

What she said here is totally disgusting.

Kim Mulkey is actually part of the problem of dishonesty at Baylor. She is dishonest and teaches her players to be as well. When Brittany Griner was playing for her, Kim Mullkey told Griner to lie about her sexuality. Mulkey had a student athlete lie so she could keep on playing basketball at Baylor.

Kim sets a hell of an example over there when it comes to telling the truth. LOL

You can understand clearly that Kim is trying to protect her basketball program as far as recruiting is concerned. Baylor is a public relations nightmare at this time.

Fake News.

Mulkey told Griner not to discuss her sexuality in the open because it would hurt recruiting. Not discussing is not the same thing as telling her to lie about it.

quote:

Former Baylor women's basketball star Brittney Griner says that Kim Mulkey, her college head coach, told players not to be open publicly about their sexuality because it would hurt recruiting and look bad for the program.

"It was a recruiting thing," Griner said during an interview with ESPN The Magazine and espnW. "The coaches thought that if it seemed like they condoned it, people wouldn't let their kids come play for Baylor."

Baylor women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey said she felt "horrible" about how remarks she made after a game on Saturday were taken to mean she was not supportive of sexual assault victims or the ongoing investigation at the school.

Mulkey spoke to espnW on Sunday afternoon and said she regretted the statement, "You knock them right in the face," in regard to how to respond to someone who might say they would never send their daughter to Baylor.

"I hate that I used the remark about punching them in the face," Mulkey said. "That was not literal. I was trying to make a point, to be firm in what you are saying back at them. I'm not a violent person. I apologize for the very poor choice of words."

Mulkey said her postgame comments were made in response to remarks she has heard suggesting parents should not send their daughters to Baylor. She said that "cut straight into me," since her daughter attended Baylor and now works for her with the women's basketball team. Mulkey said she also thought it negatively portrayed the women who are currently at the school, including her players.

"My point was, 'Please don't paint, with a broad brush, the women at Baylor,'" Mulkey said. "I didn't think about what I was going to say. I looked at my players, and the little girls and the women who are cheering for them. And I spoke with a lot of emotion."

As for her news conference comments -- in which Mulkey said she was, "Tired of hearing about it," and to "Move on, find another story to write" -- they were meant to be addressed to a specific reporter whom Mulkey said had been "digging and digging" at her.

Mulkey said she did not intend for the remarks to mean that the victims should "move on."

"Not only do I sympathize with victims, I am angry about the way victims were treated at this university," Mulkey said. "It is horrible, horrible anytime someone does not take care of a victim. Even one sexual assault is too many. Nobody is dismissing what happened here. I want us to get to the bottom of it."

Baylor commissioned a report from the law firm Pepper Hamilton to investigate the university's handling of sexual violence on campus. The report was released to the public in May 2016, and it expressed serious concerns about a culture of victim-blaming at Baylor and the school's football program being prioritized over campus safety.

"I've watched things unfold since then," Mulkey said. "I can assure you I want the truth to be out there about what happened at this university."

As for her remarks to the crowd about Baylor being the "damn best school in America," Mulkey said she thought that was probably what all coaches would say about the school they worked for.

"I'm a woman, and I recruit women to come here," said Mulkey, who has been head coach at Baylor since the 2000-2001 season and has won two NCAA titles. "I will never, ever support anybody at this university that dismisses what happens to victims or who doesn't help victims.

"But I don't think that everybody at Baylor should be put under an umbrella as all being a part of the things that happened. I can't fathom anybody not helping someone who is a victim of that type of crime. I don't condone it. My words [Saturday] did not express exactly what I was trying to say."

You know... after reading your post I changed my mind. Kim Mulkey is honest and was only interested in doing what was best for Brittany Griner.

If you want to see one of the major problems with Baylor and it's fans read your own post while standing in front of a mirror. Read it and then look up.

Mulkey was doing what was best for her team. That's what it means by "not to discuss her sexuality in the open because it would hurt recruiting"

Those comments are directly from Griner. Not sure how you think Mulkey was doing this for Griner, especially when it's Griner saying that Mulkey did it for recruiting purposes.

This coming from fans that for years belittled Griner a for not looking like a female. Now trying to take the high road lol.

Baylor: 1/2 the education for only 2x the cost.

Aggies: "Beat the hell out of Baylor"

Response: "There's no hell in Baylor."

Meanwhile we just had a former WNBA player complaining that a majority of the league is a bunch of mean lesbian bullies.

Are you really going to say with a straight face that you believe it's actually true recruiting would have been hurt if one of the best players in women's college basketball was open about being gay when a large percentage of the athletes in said sport are also gay? Really?

LMAO

Bruh, I was there the same time as Griner and everyone knew she was gay as hell. She'd be in Penland's dining hall all the time holding hands with her girlfriend and what not.

It's honestly pretty shocking how easy it is to get academic scholarships at Baylor. Like if you're just kind of above average, test scoring/GPA wise, you can pretty much knock $20K a semester off if you apply for everything.

you understand the difference between that and not letting her discuss her sexuality openly with the national media?

I just don't understand how any educated adult could think saying something like that was a good idea.
