Agreed.

It should be an intentional foul, because that's exactly what it is.

Foul people as much as you want when they have the ball. It's not like altering this rule (for the better) would completely mask terrible free throw shooters.

Just give the team the option to shoot free throws or pass the ball in. It's as simple as that.

You should never be punished for the other team committing a penalty or foul.

Can you imagine if the Rockets AND the Clippers employ that tactic in their series, since neither Jordan nor Howard can shoot free throws? The games will never end.

This is 'Merica, damnit. If David Blatt doesn't like it, he can get out.

Well Europeans care more about how they win. Whereas Americans have the win by any means necessary mindset.

Yeah well that's overseas, and those leagues aren't nearly as profitable/popular as the NBA, so I'm pretty sure the NBA can do whatever the frick they want and David Blatt can quit whining like a pussy

Well, they're going to change the rule, so.

I never could figure out why it wasn't.

Because there aren't intentional fouls in the NBA anymore, to my knowledge. I could be wrong.

There are flagrant fouls for hard fouls, and clear-path fouls. These two pretty much have replaced the "intentional foul" in name in the NBA.

They should bring it back for this situation, IMO.

If shaq is shooting them, yes. Never understood why LSU fans didn't get mad at him for not practicing them.

This is kind of my soap box on basketball in general. Fouls are not called consistently. If the foul was intentionally committed then it is by rule an intentional foul. I can't stand fouls at the end of a game that are intentional yet are not called as such.

It's not just the free throws. It's the time that it saves by fouling right after an inbounds. The player only gets 1-2 free throws. Yet you've stopped the clock in what could be an end of game situation where you can jack threes and make up the difference even if they make the free throws.

You also have to consider that bad free-throw shooters rarely make it in the European leagues.

You need to be careful as to how you change the rule due to unintended consequences. Next thing you know you create ways for referees to cause huge impacts on the game by calling ticky-tacky off the ball fouls late in the game.

Maybe people in the NBA shouldn't be such terrible free throw shooters?

There are many bad free throw shooters in Europe just like in the NBA.

I think a cool wrinkle would be allowing the player to shoot from the top of the key and it would count as 3 points. This would reduce the instances of teams who are up by 3 fouling, and give more options to a team who may want to roll the dice.

career 90% FT shooter. Eliminates the poor physics of big men.

until poor shooters exhaust all options, there is no need to change the rules.

If you have Shaq or Deandre Jordan on your team then yes.

It's not like these guys aren't practicing free throws. They just don't have the ability to make free throws as consistently as others.

It's also punishing me by not being able to use the clock
