When is the official date that we can bet here in Louisiana? i know it passed but how long do we have to wait?

Have to wait for all the politicians to get paid so I’d say sometime in 2022.

I think I’ve read I wouldn’t expect it until football season 2021 at the earliest
Also not sure if I need to clarify or not, but the amendment was not to legalize sports gambling

Daily Fantasy was voted on and passed in 2018 and we still aren’t able to bet down here so that should give you some indication of how long this state drags its arse.

What was it for?

To my understanding, it allows the fantasy bill from 2018 to be put into the tax plan going forward or something to that effect
quote:
Senate Bill 130, passed by the Louisiana State Senate on May 13, 2020, was designed to ask the voters in each of Louisiana's 64 parishes whether or not to authorize sports betting within the parish. If a majority of voters in the parish support authorizing sports betting, sports betting would be allowed in the parish after state laws are passed providing for the regulation of such activities.[1]
They call it sports betting in the bill but it specifically targets daily fantasy, and not sports gambling in the traditional sense

Proposed law provides that if a majority of the qualified electors in the parish voting on the proposition vote "for" the proposition, then sports wagering activities and operations will be permitted in such parish only after state laws providing for the licensing, regulation, and taxation of such activities and operations are enacted and become effective.
Proposed law provides that if a majority of the qualified electors in the parish voting on the proposition vote "against" the proposition, then sports wagering activities and operations will not be permitted in the parish. Proposed law provides that in the event of the legalization of sports wagering, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board shall have all regulatory authority, control and jurisdiction, including investigation, licensing, and enforcement and all power incidental or necessary to such regulatory authority, control, and jurisdiction over all aspects of sports wagering activities and operations.
Defines "sports wagering" as the business of accepting wagers on any sports event or sports contest by any system or method of wagering.
The only sports wagering that has been approved in LA govt is the daily fantasy bill that passed completely in May of this year
All other forms of sports gambling would still need to get approved/voted on/ regulated

That’s too easy for Louisiana leg. Gotta grease the right pockets for a couple years to get real sports gambling done

a gaming guy was quoted in an article I read, 2022 at the earliest...Louisiana gon Louisiana
quote:
But there's still a legal process before sports betting is allowed on the casino floor.
"It'll go in the legislative session starting in April. Once it's made into law, then rules have to be made by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, which controls us," Ginn said.
The legislature passed the bill earlier this year sending sports betting to the ballot. Fifty-five out of 64 parishes in Louisiana voted to legalize it.
Lieutenant Colonel Mike Noel with the Louisiana Gaming Control Board says he predicts that people will be able to start sports betting no sooner than 2022.
"It's just the way the process works. The legislature has to lay out the framework, and then the rule-making process is a four-to-six-month process. Once that happens, the entities that want to participate will have to apply and get licensed," Noel said.

Louisiana politicians loves legal red tape almost as much as they love corruption

that feeling when you realize Mississippi is becoming a more progressives state....

We won’t even have an estimated date for a few more years

Hopefully the casino lobby will get this moving faster than it's taking fantasy to go through.
They'll benefit much more from this than the fantasy wagering.

The LA legislature will have to put in legalization and taxation bills for sports wagering in the 2021 session.
If both pass in the LA House and Senate, then sports wagering could happen by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
If either fail, sports wagering will have until 2023. Which means the taxation bill can only be passed in odd years or special sessions, like we just had for covid. So that would mean 2023 or a "special session" in either 2021 or 2022.
