Fiers vs Doubront
Last long roadtrip of the season. Castro could join the team in Anaheim.
Let's win some damn games!

Quick read from 3 days ago: Carlos Gomez's fall from grace (SIAP)
Not a huge fan of LD% and quality of contact metrics since they are kind of noisy, but it definitely shows you Gomez is in a funk in the context of his career. It seems we got incredibly unlucky with him, even relative to his performance in the first half of this year. The hopeful news is that all of his stats are starting to trend upward. BABIP, OBP, plate discipline numbers, etc. Slugging is still not very good, though.

In years past, analysts would only be able to look at his BABIP and judge his string of luck based on whether it was higher or lower than league average. However, with the advent of contact rates, we can derive conclusions as to why his BABIP may have declined. Herein lies the potential answer to why Gomez has found himself in a bit of a dry spell in the luck department at the moment.
For much of Gomez’s career, he’s hovered around league average with his batted ball data, hitting a little more soft contact than league average, per Fangraphs. Similarly to his other metrics, his batted ball data tells the story of second half regression with less and less squaring up of pitches and ergo generating hard contact. The result of that is Gomez’s line drive rate declining from 20 per cent to 15.2 per cent with his ground ball rate increasing.

Really since the Yankees series when he got fired up with Girardi, he's been pretty good

Even if you make the argument that we overpaid for a rental, two things to note: a) that's not relevant for the decision to play him, and b) you really can't hold that against Ludlow since he was making the decision based on the information at his disposal.
ETA: Misspoke...he's not technically a rental since he's got another year left.

Anyone with farking ability, I wouldn't be opposed to putting Fiers' face on this

I don't get the over paying argument. Where exactly was Maverick going to play within the next year or two? Hell, we can hardly find a place for Tucker.
Not to mention Ted Willaims Jr., and Daz as recently acquired stud OF prospects. Losing Maverick sucks but it's not the end of the world as many DATers want to make it sound.

People are just looking for a scapegoat incase we collapse
The thought of someone using Ludlow as a serious excuse for anything bad that happens is one of the most laughable things ever

Agree, we've got a glutton of MILB talent. Going to be interesting how they figure out what these younger guys can contribute in the next year or so, while we compete for division Titles

Yeah because he left a World Series contender in Milwaukee to join a team with no playoff hopes in Houston.
Idiot.
Idiot.

Our village idiot will be all over that.

Anyway, hopefully he stops swinging out of his shoes so much. It's clear he is trying too hard to impress and help make a difference.

I know you are probably trolling, but to me it seems gomez loves the game. Im rewatching the game from last night and the guy shows so much excitement. After Lowries Bomb the guy was all smiles. I like rooting for the guy
