So the problem with the Gattis/Beltran conundrum lies here. Beltran already doesn't start VS LHP. And That's usually when Gattis does the catching.

So we're talking about playing Gattis at DH vs RHP when McCann is also in the lineup. In the case of an inury to McCann, we're forced to burn the DH and would have to bat our pitchers or pinch hitters in a playoff game. A McCann injury is an unlikely thing to expect but could potentially put us in a disadvantage for a game.

The 4 game series in BOS pretty much decided that for us

I'm not. Unless it's actually the lone backup catcher with the idea of Gattis DHing full time...in which case we have no use for Beltran on the post season roster. And we all know that's not happening.
