If so, not much at all. But it's clear Luhnow wants to try him there. Since he's been a third baseman, we know he has a better arm than Conger.

White’s likely to play winter ball and is headed to the instructional league at season’s end, where he’s to be tried out as a catcher.

“He’s a good candidate to come to big league camp next year,” Luhnow said.

I feel like that keeps him farther away from the majors. We've got a hole at 1st base. And though we lack catching prospects, we've got a decent enough major league catcher. Having White learn to play C delays him from getting to the majors.

You make a good point. But it may not. I mean, he could conceivably be as good as Conger is defensively after instructional league, winter ball and spring training (it's not that hard to that "good"). He could backup Castro, play 1B and DH in April.

Reed is the 1B of the future. With Gattis and Tucker under control for a while, DH is pretty set. White to catcher gives him a spot that he could have an impact even if it keeps him from the majors a little longer. Castro is a FA after next year

Ludlow is making a mistake but not calling up white. He instantly improves us over carter. Carter barely has a pulse.

What a dramatically better lineup. We are fortunate that our division is poor, but it's amazing that we are chasing a penant when we are not even close to hitting our stride as a club yet. White and Reed are phenomenal OBP hitters for players of their mold. We are going to go from the worst K team in the league to one of the best over the next couple of years.

Also don't forget Bregman (.338/.385/.496 at Lancaster), who was regarded as one of, if not the best contact hitters and AB guys in the draft.
