Have a good night.

Thinking about making sure you come away with a couple of veteran arms for the bullpen at a minimum for a sure-fire playoff team that needs help should have been in Luhnow's plans. Bad GM? Of course not. Poorly handled trade deadline? Yes.

Listening to Morton talk, he seems like a bit of a head case.

Thats all we need, is one of the more reliable arms right now to lose it psychologically.

I think we'll need one of those rickety old wooden signs with "HOU Pitchers-Stay Out" posted on bullpen fence.

Since no one gave out top tier prospects, maybe, just maybe, other orgs have better or had more highly sought after or other teams liked a particular one better than our 2nd tier prospects?

It's just a thought. And I'll leave it at that. I've had enough for the day.

Perhaps. I just have trouble believing that EVERY midseason rankings has us top 5 and prospects like Yordan Alvarez, Franklin Perez, Derek Fisher, Francis Martes all very highly rated yet there wasnt a single GM out there who wanted them. No one wanted Colin Moran or AJ Reed.

I like all those players above, but outside of Fisher (now) and possibly Martes none will contribute to this team and there is a possibility that they never contribute.

Also we have no more ready depth in the minors for this season and we have two months to go. There is no net for the staff now. He has to look hard at waiver deals now but that is hard to pull off.

The Cubs gave out 2 top 5 prospects for Quintana, and the Yankees gave out 3 top 10 prospects for Gray.

I am sure he will look hard at waiver deals since they expected to get Britton and it didn't happen. Not sure reliever wise who is out there that could make a difference. Most of them are low cost salary wise so I think it would be hard for them to clear. Drew Storen is one who didn't get dealt and could definitely help but I doubt he gets through

None of which was in their top tier valued protected prospects. They were able to protect Frazier, torres etc.

Thats after a ton of recent promotions none of which did they have to give away.

The cubs also got Wilson+a good catcher in Alex avila for stuff off their junk pile.

ETA: All of this to say Luhnow has done an exceptional job in the draft, internationally and scouting other organizations farms. He can pick up FAs off the junk pile like no one else-Fister, Harris, Morton. However he has failed at the trade deadline 3 years in a row now. (Debatable last year I guess)

Yep. You can tell MT was not happy. I bet if you had lunhow into a few drinks he would admit he's kicking himself
