Was he legit throwing 95 last night or was that a hot gun?

I know he doesn't throw that kind of heat as a starter but maybe he's capable of cranking it up there in spurts. If he's throwing 95, with that change (the circle of death) he's more than just a long man. I hope AJ gives him some higher leverage looks before McCullers comes back.

Rasmus seems like a perfect redneck fit.

BTW can someone on the Rangers trick Beltre into dabbing so that they can mess with his head?

I think in short relief, Devenski would be able to crank it up several mphs faster than a long outing. Since he has found more velocity, we could have a devastating set-up man all of the sudden.

The pitch "tron"? broke around the 6th inning. The one that says what kind of pitch and how fast, so I can't say. He was throwing heat

Really hoping this bullpen turns around. This is definantly not what I was expecting from them pre season.

It's not the bullpen...it's giles.

It's just two starts, against the sputtering Mets and the horrific Padres at that, but Vince Velasquez looks absolutely electric. 14 Ks 0 BBs today. I think Giles will end up being good as usual, but the Astros may regret this one.

Lunhow is a great farm director. Can't take that away from him.

I think Luhnow needs to avoid anymore big trades. I'm willing to ride out how the high minors top prospects work out rather than make another big trade.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Lunhow. He has done a great job. And it is way too early to judge this trade. Just saying that Velasquez looks great so far.

Well if you make a trade it needs to be for a known commodity. Giles had basically 1 year under him at the time.

I tend to agree at this point. I think Lucroy would be a possible exception because he's a pretty known quantity, but I don't know if I want to take more out of our farm system. What frustrates me is thinking about having back what we gave up for Giles and how it make trading for Lucroy that much easier

Short of Chris Sale or Sonny Gray, let's not consider it. Musgrove, Martes and Shirley at a minimum are coming fast. Hoyt should be in our pen already. We know all about the bats coming.

Giles isn't the worst trade. The gomez trade is far worse because we gave up Brett phillips.

Damn. Velasquez has looked excellent in his starts. Meanwhile Giles looks more like he belongs in an Italian kitchen with all the meatballs he's serving up. Time will tell. But the Phillies are winning that trade in the very early going.

Giles needs to be elite over his many years to come in Houston for the trade to be break even. No need to panic on him this soon.

I just struggle to watch Gomez play. I want a smarter roster.
