With Neshek and Gregerson, the bullpen could go from a huge hole in 2014 to one of the strengths of the team in 2015. Qualls, Neshek and Gregersen plus Tony Sipp who was good for us last year. And remember Will Harris who we picked up from the Dbacks? Only pitched 29 innings last year but had a 2.91 ERA in 52 innings in 2013. Then theres Josh Fields. He was terrible early on. 12.00 ERA through May 6. But following that, he quietly posted a 2.32 ERA with 55SO/10 walks in 42.2 innings the rest of the year.

I've also heard they're trying to bring back Veras, who has been pretty good for us the past two years.

We said this last year when we got Albers and Crain but this should really bolster the club. Exactly what we needed. I am off the Dominguez bandwagon and would be pumped to get Lowrie, either to play SS or 3B. High OBP guy, low K's, productive AB's - the opposite of Matty D.

Speaking of Albers, I guess there's no chance of bringing him back on a 1 year deal?

He struggled in Chicago but came back here and did really well. I hope we bring him back.

This is setting up perfect with the new TV deal

So who do we think closes next year? Nobody has experience in it.

I would like to see a wide open competition between the 3 (Neshek, Gregerson, and Qualls) and let the best man win. Use the spring and the early part of the season to let it work out. Or closer by committee based on who has the hot hand and fresh arm.

I like the idea of Qualls closing because he's done it with success for a long time and the others haven't as much. Let them pitch in situations they're used to.

I agree with all of that msu. Pumped about boosting the pen and would love to shore up the left side of the infield. At least get more capable bodies to compete. Lowrie would be great.

I wouldn't mind Lowrie either really like his game and he can be versatile whenever it's time for Correa to come on up in the near future.

Love the bullpen help wouldn't mind a middle of the rotation starter added before the week is up but I don't have any earthly clue who that could be. Maybe McCarthy or someone along those lines

Crane arrived at the winter meetings yesterday.

I certainly don't want my team to be on the hook for 200 mil for Scherzer think I'd pass

ETA: I want James Shields if the astros are adding a top of the rotation arm

It's a shame that Ryno is banned. How many times did we hear from him "THE ASTROS NEVER WANT TO SPEND MONEY."

Everyone told him that the Astros would spend money when the time came right, starting this offseason and that they weren't just going to spend millions just for the hell of it.

Surprise surprise, the rational people who aren't clueless were right and the Astros are starting to spend some money. Crazy how that shite works.

It's pretty exciting seeing the timeline that I thought the Astros were on coming true, a little money this offseason see the improvement over '15 and boom big signings where needed next offseason and compete for a spot in 2016

Meh. I'm not that high on Scherzer. Guy turned down 6/144 before the season and Lester just got 6/166 so he's going to be looking for more than that. Plus Boras is his agent. I just don't think he's worth near Kershaw money. In his Cy Young season, he's ERA was 2.90. I mean thats good but hardly dominant. DK nearly posted that for us in his 200 innings this year.

I never understand this way of thinking in baseball. There's no cap so, as a fan, I couldn't care less what my team pays a player. It certainly would be interesting and attendance would boom pretty quick.

His age (30.5) is what would make me hesitant on giving him that money.

Because of Carlos Lee thats why hahaha His age and a contract of that size/length is what makes it a no for me. Would love to sign McCarthy. He was dealing to end the year in NY.

$12 million/year for a career 4.10 ERA, thrown 200 innings once (2013 - 4.05 ERA). No thanks.

Wow! Is that what is he going for? Yeah... No thanks. Was expecting him to be a bit lower, even though he did have a great 2nd half last year.

That's the going rate for middle of the rotation arms now unfortunately.

Career, yes....who's to say the light hasn't come on within the last couple of years?

Unless he shows up and confirms that in this thread

Hey Brandon... Do you feel your game has progressed more in the past 3 seasons? What specifically have you worked on? What was the "lightbulb came on" moment for you? Also, will you sign with Houston? Haha
