More like Randy Edsall: Terrapin Killer

Since he was hired last January, 24 players with eligibility left have transferred.

He's a Coughlin disciple and definitely a hardass. That said, it is really amazing how many players have left the program.

I'm sure that Tim Rattay and Brandon Doman agree with you.

Kragthorpe did the same thing at Louisville. If a kid doesn't think he fits in the system, he doesn't. Oil and water doesn't mix.

There wasn't a mass exodus at UConn when he was there. Why's that?

Edsall will have them winning. The guy is a good coach, IMO. We'll see what happens.

I didn't get the Edsell hire at Maryland in the first place

They seem to want to grow their athletics, Edsell ain't the one to do that, IMO

Because he only recruited low caliber, high character guys. He went to Maryland, where Friedgen was bringing in a differe type of athlete. I followed UConn a good bit, and Edsall don't play around with guys missing classes and breaking minor team rules. He has things like dress codes and no earrings that pissed a bunch of players off at Maryland.

I don't think he will last long enough to have a chance.

To be fair, those pictures are from Hurricane Irene, but yes, attendance took a nosedive.

I was about to say.....

...and coached them up. Now he'll have access to higher caliber guys and probably higher character recruits as well (minus Diggs )

No, the last two were from the Boston College v Maryland game in October 29th, two months after Hurricane Irene.

Oh, I agree and think he's a good coach. I was just pointing out a reason for the attrition he's seen. Friedgen and Edsall probably couldn't be more different when it comes to what they require from a kid. The kids that left were (mostly) upperclassmen that had been in a totally different program for the years prior to Edsall. He just may not get the time to turn things around. He is a very boring coach, and the media has already turned on him.

Fine. Obviously from the pictures the game was played in a deluge, between 2 terrible teams. Attendance dropped off big time at Maryland, but there isn't 5000 people in the stadium in the pics you posted. That isn't quite the reality.

Not a fit at Maryland EVER

JMO. He's a good coach, just not a fit there

I think part of the problem Edsall has up there is that the media wasn't happy with Fat Ralph getting fired, let alone fired after a season where he won ACC Coach Of The Year and the school's coach-in-waiting had jumped ship to coach Vandy.

Add in that he immediately alienated a couple of the top area High Schools, and you really have a bad situation. Maryland typically did very well at DeMatha HS, but lost 2 4 star recruits from there (Michael Moore and Brent Wilkerson) this year. Edsall made almost no attempt to get them either. Maryland landed 2 of the top 11 in-state prospects this year.
