I'm just done with him. They benched him, they moved him, gave him ever opportunity to play his way back into the lineup, yet he just seems like he doesn't mesh with this program. I don't know what they can get for him but I'll take a hot dog and a bag of peanuts at this point.

Well that was just a shite show all around. Giants are winning. They better get their shite together or they're going to get passed

Since when did Castro do this load up on his back foot so early in his swing and take viscious cuts with every swing like he's going to do some damage or something? Dude looks like a broke down Alfonso Soriano. Also pissed me off in the LA series where he half assed a ball in the 3/4 hole, didn't lay out or anything

Baez coming up, maybe he will get run at 2B to see what he can do

I wish they'd do something. Seriously Castro is done as a Cub. He's still young and probably can get back to MLB level on another team, but he is just mentally checked out in Chicago. He's the one guy on the team I just can't like.

He's good to have around because he takes all the focus off what the hell justin grimm was doing (who the frick is adam duvall?) and makes what would be a frustrating loss turn into a joke of a loss.

You cannot lose to the AAA Reds team 13-6. Baseball is a mysterious fig and things sometimes are really weird in this game, but this loss is not something that you can be okay with.

Hendricks was bad, grimm worse, castro castroed.

I know it's joey votto but, (and obviously what he's done earns him the benefit of the doubt) IBB votto with runners on 1st and 2nd was a head scratching move by maddon.

Giants lost, no big deal, try again today.

Reinforcements are coming today, too. Baez, Berry, Cahill and others.

Mike Olt DFA'd by the Cubs. I don't know why, but I just feel bad for the guy.

Baez,

Looking forward to this. Cautiously optimistic but also tempering my exceptions greatly after last go around.

With Cahill, Wada, and Richards (and travis wood to an extent). I can see the haren/hendricks (and bad hammel) being more of a 3 inning shift, less of a starting pitcher situation where none of those guys go past 2 times through the order.

I do too, because my belief is that he was knocking on the door then the bean ball got him and effectively ended his ascent. How true that is, I can't say.

Meh. I don't get too upset on last night.

Baseball is such a mental game, hard to get that focus flying across two time zones during the middle of the night.

The Reds were 5-20 in their last 25 games I think. The Cubs have to win these.

What are your thoughts on Baez as a direct replacement for Castro? I don't follow the minors very closely.

Definite defensive upgrade, definite baserunning upgrade, definite power and potential upgrade, contact downgrade. Baez is better and likely will get some playing time. If he hits like he has been in the minors (taking walks, minimizing K's) he will play as all other aspects of his game are MLB ready and better than Castro's (IMO).

Depends if he's really made changes. He recently went back to swinging out of his shoes, then readjusted and got away from those bad habits. We'll see if that translates to the majors. Anytime someone changes their approach and doesn't have immediate success with it at the majors my first concern is do they forgo that change and go back to what they're most comfortable with. If he does that he won't see the field much.

He's probably (at least now) an upgrade all around over castro, but it's not like he's without warts. He's not immune to the head scratching errors in the field I think he has more than castro. And we know all about the contact issues.

Sounds like a push with way more upside. It's easier to forgive a young player for mistakes as he adjusts to the bigs. Castro is young but he's also a veteran, so his fielding errors and shitty plate appearances are harder to let go. He doesn't even look like he wants to be there. As little Nicky said, it's time to move on.

With how bad castro has been (albeit since benching/move to 2b he's been pretty good, last night not withstanding) this year i'd give the edge to baez and only worry a little bit that i ahve back up quarterback syndrome.

Eh this is certainly a narrative, but one I've never gotten on board with.

Depends what that is. Some have called for his straight up release, that's absurd. He'll get moved in the offseason most likely. For under what his value probably is considering his career so far, but probably for fair value considering this year.
