Question What are the neuropathological and clinical features of a case series of deceased players of American football neuropathologically diagnosed as having chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE)?
Findings In a convenience sample of 202 deceased players of American football from a brain donation program, CTE was neuropathologically diagnosed in 177 players across all levels of play (87%), including 110 of 111 former National Football League players (99%).
Meaning In a convenience sample of deceased players of American football, a high proportion showed pathological evidence of CTE, suggesting that CTE may be related to prior participation in football.

It sucks but football needs to be stopped as a sport.
Unless you want to watch pro touch football.

you shouldn't get too worked up over it
in 100 years they're going to have group all sorts of variables into new conditions that we can't imagine as conditions today
only a couple hundred years ago (and this remains true through the rest of humanity), you'd have fought in a war or two by now

Money will always be entirely too intriguing over your health.
110/111 is crazy though and very much a real thing that needs to be discussed even further. But in football, you can only do so much or else it becomes an entirely different sport.

Is there a scale or range of CTE? In what context should this information be considered? How much CTE is deadly? How much does that average athlete have? The average football player of old? Current?

Why? No one is forced to play football. Should boxing and MMA be stopped as well? What about soccer? There have been studies showing CTE found in the brains of former soccer players. Same for Ice Hockey.
The bottom line is this -- NO ONE who plays these sports does so without knowledge that the risk of physical injury exists. If that bothers you, don't play.
Even if CTE had been known in the 50', 60's, 70's and 80's, the majority of professional football players would have continued to play. This is ALL a giant litigation money grab by former players who squandered whatever money they made playing football.
Is this what our society is coming to? We need someone else to protect us from ourselves and common sense? Who could have imagined that repeated head collisions could have adverse health impacts!?

Some of those questions are referred to in the article.

I love football, but I genuinely think we are closing in on the last decade or two of the sport as we know it.

i'm still shocked at the legal justifications that have allowed these suits to move forward, honestly
the arguments and legal theories make no rational sense and require abandoning basic legal principles (especially the power of collective bargaining)

Disagree. They're learning more and more about CTE, so that players can actually be truly informed of the risks of playing.

i think the issues with CTE have been published about for like 15-20 years

Wow who would have thought banging yoye head against others at full speed for years could cause damage
We all make decisions for our life, we all would trade our profession for theirs. And they sure as hell wasnt complaining when they were receiving those nice paychecks.

Pretty sure that for a long time, no one believed this.
