I'm no Patriot fanboy, but these numbers are simply amazing.

- The Patriots are going to their 7th Super Bowl under Belichick (breaking a tie with Don Shula for most by any head coach).
- The Patriots have played in the AFC Championship Game 11 times under Belichick, including the last 6 straight.
- The Patriots have played in 3 of the last 6 Super Bowls (1 win, 1 loss, and 1 TBD).
- The last time the Patriots didn't win the AFC East (2008), George W. Bush was still in office.
- The last time the Patriots won fewer than 10 games in a regular season was 2002.
- Including his time as DC for the Giants, Belichick has coached in 18% of all Super Bowls since the creation of the game itself.
- Belichick has won more playoff games as a head coach (25) than all but five NFL franchises have in their existences (Oakland, Dallas, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco).
- Most playoff games coached of any NFL head coach (tied with Chuck Noll and Tom Landry).

That was year Brady got hurt. 11-5 is good enough to make the playoffs most years.

Yep, like him or not, Belichick is the best football coach of all time IMO.

Certainly not trying to discredit him but I wonder what the overall record of the Jets, Bills, and Dolphins is since 2001.

Pulling these off in the age of free agency/parity is simply incredible.

Much like the niners of the 80s and 90s, they've benefitted greatly from a TERRIBLE division for an extraordinary amount of time.

It makes things much easier when you basically just have to go 6-4 outside your division and you get a bye and home field throughout.

So two posters saying they play in a crappy division, but yet they've still also managed to win in the playoffs and make 7 Super Bowls.

LINK

Article is from 2014 but at that time the rest of the division is 286-353 overall since 2001.

Do you think that they would have made nearly as many SBs if they had to play on the road on the first weekend more often than not? Like the Raiders did this year?

The AFC East has combined for NINE 10+ win seasons since 2001 when you take out the Patriots... that's 16 seasons.

No benefit from there at all.

You don't think that maybe the reason that division is so bad is because they are competing with the most dominant team in the sport every year? It cuts both ways. Their record outside of divisional games is still insane

I don't even like the Pats and the divisional argument against them is ridiculous. This is over the course of 16 years and god knows how many head coaches and front offices for the other three franchises.

People want to discredit them out of hatred/jealousy for some reason. It's okay to acknowledge how ridiculous they are while still rooting against them, I certainly do

What? So them being bad is because of the patriots? Im not downplaying the patriots. But you cant say the division as a whole is bad ONLY because of the patriots. These other franchises have been terrible for the past 15 years.

Outside of the division Bills, Jets, and Dolphins are a combined 213-237 from 2002-2016.

They are 18th, 20th, and 23rd during that time period. And none of them had a winning out of division record during that period.

I don't think anyone is discrediting the Pats at all just trying to put this run in perspective.

They have played in a really bad division but have also whipped everyone else.

You just helped make my point. So they average 6.8-3.2 record outside of the division. 7-3 for simplicity, obviously very good, but if their division was good enough to hand them two losses a year, that's an 11-5 record. That gets you a first weekend game many, if not most seasons. However, they probably average close to one loss in division, which puts you one win away from the conference championship and gets you healthy before the playoffs.
