why is the nfl testing policy stupid?
How does it benefit the NFL or its players?

All it does is lessen the on-field product.

ETA: Honestly, I can't think of one benefit of drug testing for recreational drugs.

jerry keeps gettin all these character guys ignoring everything like ezekiel elliot, randy gregory, and greg hardy. I bet he hires Art Briles next year as offensive coordinator if not coach. The guys cares about nothing but winning, briles is perfect for him

there is no upside or benefit to doing it
Agree 100%.

I'm struggling to think of a single benefit.

Because it is bad for your image.

Letting guys get away with smoking weed and acting like it doesn't happen is a better PR move than suspending guys for it and confirming that it is occurring.

Don't get me wrong, the players are the only people at fault, but the NFL should just ignore it for their own sake.

I thought 3rd offense was out of the league....I can't keep up though.

This is atleast his 5 failed test since the combine.

1 at the combine
3 during his rookie season (resulted in a 4 game suspension)
and now this one.

I wouldn't lump them all together. Testing and punishing guys for weed and testing and punishing guys for coke are two different animals for your public appeal. Many people won't bat an eye at weed, but sponsors are a little jittery about backing a coke head.

He not only fricked it up for himself, but he fricked it up for the players after him that need a second chance coming out of college. Much props to Tyrann Mathieu for trying to balance the scales and show kids can make the most of their second chances.

Meh. Players will always get a second chance at this level. The competition is too high to stand on morality that strongly.

Colleges reaction to the Baylor stuff will be a greater hindrance to those players. The SECs new transfer rule is the first step of probably many measures they will take to avoid more of the Baylor PR hit
