I put this here to discuss just the ad placement, not really the movie. That's why it's not on the movie board. How badly are NFL jimmies being rustled with this ad?

Have they run during actual games? I think the NFL may draw the line there.

Do people really want to see this movie? I mean the synopsis is: the NFL tried to cover up head injuries. Players played a dangerous sport...now players want money. Players would have still played anyway... Knowing what they now know. The NFL is the bad guy. We'll still watch football on Sundays. The end.

They forced espn to not run a 60 min thing about concussions a few years back by threatening tv rights.

So they didn't force ESPN to do anything.

NFL has a lot of power, just like when they refused to allow/sign off on letting Stone use NFL trademarks in Any Given Sunday... if it makes the NFL look bad at all, they won't do it.

They played ads throughout the NFL thanksgiving games

Honestly I think the league saw the commercial and saw how absolutely dreadful the movie looks and went "yeah go ahead and show that so LESS people will go see it"

You honestly think that the NFL sees a national marketing campaign of an awareness project that paints the league as a bunch of money hungry arse holes who put cash over player safety as a good thing?

I honestly think you need to take it down a notch, it ain't that serious playa

ETA and the previews come off more as a crazy conspirsosy movie than an NFL hit piece

Hard to take it seriously when it's got Will Smith giving a Blood Diamond level accent and then random guys in suits giving him death threats over his concussion cause

So back to the OP...why would ESPN run those ads, or why wouldn't the NFL pressure them not to?
