Is this the dumbest thing in sports? I can't imagine if right after announcing the playoff teams, CFB analysts were going on and on about who the fvck the Tire.com 3000 Bowl picked.

I don't even know wtf a Monmouth is. Who gives a fvck about this nonsense? Let's start talking about the real games. No own really gives a fvck about who's left out, it's forced fury 100%.

Because the "Tire.com" bowl has zero impact on the Sugar Bowl or Rose Bowl. Not the same in the tourney

If you leave it up to the committee members, you have no room to bitch.

It's because a lot of us love seeing the underdog upset in the NCAA tournament.

When .500 teams from major conferences get in, the tournament simply isn't as interesting to me (and, I would imagine, many other people).

They did exactly what the NCAA asks all teams not in the power conferences to do. They went on the road, they played the big boys, they put together a great record. But they didn't win their conferences tournament, even though they won the regular season title. So the NCAA just gave them a middle finger and said we'd rather a mediocre name team than you little guys.

Bingo.

It's funny that the committee often forgets that mid majors are a big element in what make the NCAA tournament so great.

People still talk about a George Mason team from 10 years ago like it was yesterday.

No one cares? Everyone finds a cinderella story once a year in the tourney!

General public doesn't care.
The only ones who can complain is the school.

It means revenue and raising funds for future years...alumni, donations, national exposure, etc.

It means a lot to these little schools.

I'm surprised we haven't heard of bribery scandals with the selection committee and small schools like the IOC and Olympic bidding.

We cared when we were taken as an at large as it gave our school notoriety the city embraced us and the country found us as cute little team. It helped we had an All American Olympian and National Champion as a coach though.

How many Monmouth fans will travel to a distant regional compared to how many Michigan fans? Do you think there will be as many Monmouth fans as Syracuse fans watching on television, or listening on radio? This is all about money. The NCAA wants to maximize ticket sales and gate attendance for current revenue, and it wants to maximize ratings for leverage when negotiating the next television and radio contracts.

Because those players at Monmouth were robbed of their dream. When you go to a school like that, your goal is to make the NCAA Tournament.

You aren't going to win the national championship, but you get to hear your name called on selection Sunday and play on one of the biggest stages in sports. The first two days of the NCAA tornament, might as well be a national holiday.

Exactly this. It matters to these kids, and they did what was asked of them, but the rules always change for midmajors, while mediocre big conference teams can back in without a decent resume.

On top of that, the best thing about the tourney is Cinderella. That's a first weekend thing, before the big boys take center stage and get to the business of crowning a champ. The 2nd week is prose, the 1st week is poetry. We, as fans, are being robbed of our tourney experience. It sucks.

It can matter a great deal. VCU was a first four bubble team with far less skins on the wall than Monmouth has this year.

I personally would rather have two 1 or 2 seeds in the title game than a Cinderella team. Last year's title game was a classic.
