This is a neat list. The SEC dominates which is not surprising, but I thought LSU would be a top ten school in the ratings. I can't believe we got beat by Mississippi State and Ole Miss which is unacceptable. Michigan State being in in the top ten is a mild surprise but not unreasonable. But Miss State shouldn't be that high. lol.

There's nothing better to do in Mississippi and Alabama

List makes no sense to me.

Minnesota over Penn State, USC, Texas and Oklahoma?

Well it I guess it depends on how often you were on ABC over ESPN or the BTN or the Longhorn Network.

There's about 5 million people in Minnesota and they are the only program in the state and other people in other big ten schools may watch Minnesota v. Ohio State on ABC versus Florida v. Tennessee on CBS or USC v. Oregon State on Fox.

It was a one year blip. MSU was ranked #1 for 4 weeks and played three games on network television (vs. Bama, AU and OM) Those games in and of themselves probably skewed the avg rating. They also played in a BSC game.

To the contrary, LSU had it's worst record since 2008; Played only 1 CBS game all season AND played it's bowl game at a dead time slot (mid-day on a Tuesday). With all of that, LSU still finished 11th in the ratings.

The biggest take away from that list is just how nationally popular Florida and Michigan are. Florida (7) and Michigan (13) both finished in the top 15 despite each having poor years.

State and OM both were highly ranked most of the season and played a lot of primetime games. It won't happen again so don't fret your little tiger head about it.

Minnesota's schedule was favorable to high viewership: TCU, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin

All of these opponents probably generated a huge audience

It was because of who they were playing, not because of anything on Minnesota's side of it. It wouldn't matter if Minnesota was the only FBS program in the state or if there were four others - nobody cares about the Gophers.

You are wrong. People in Minnesota do care about the gophers. They have one of the newest and nicest stadiums in college football. I am not a big gopher fan but I will concede that they are followed heavily in Minnesota albeit it gets displayed more when they are winning.

Pretty interesting list. At first it is surprising that Miss State and Ole Miss had higher viewership than LSU, but the Miss schools had uncharacteristically good seasons so all of their fans were watching plus several national broadcasts. LSU was down. If you took a five or ten year average it would be a much different story.

LSU was 11. you don't think this statistical data doesn't have any variance.

Very likely LSU was top 10.

NC State at 19th? Wow, I wouldn't have even guessed they'd be in the top 50.
