When would they actually go to class?

Again, how can you say that any proposed tournament that allows 4-8 Notre Dame with a valid path to the NC isn't watering down the regular season?

It is forcing the teams in the P5 and other conferences to win their conference in order to make it to the playoffs. There wouldn't be any talk of if Michigan should make it into the playoffs, or if Alabama loses the SEC championship if they should make it in. And who is to say this would be the norm, I just pulled this out of the RPI. If the CFP committee wanted to, they could have a final ranking that includes the top 50.
That said, the powers that be (ESPN) would never let their talking points like this go away.

Well seeing as most schools have finals the week after the conference championship weekend, it shouldn't interfere like it doesn't now.

How could FBS do this without killing these players and missing school? I know FCS has 16 teams but FCS is flag football right? Also aren't some FCS games virtual so while they are in class they play the games mentally? Trying to comprehend how an 11 FBS is unbearable but FCS has had a 16 team tourney for so long.

if you want to be in on the championship, you only schedule 8 regular season games. all teams must choose to be aligned in a conference and play at least 5 games vs that conference. ND will be called an ACC team. All conferences have a championship game of division winners. If you don't win your division, enjoy the Rose bowl if you are THE Ohio State this year.

all conference champs meet in NCAA playoff. if there are an uneven number of conferences, include the highest ranked team not already included. seed accordingly.
quibble whether to have 8 or 9 regular season games. something like that. not 12.
end up with no more than 12 possible games including the conference champ game.

teams that elect not to be considered for the NCAA playoff THAT YEAR can schedule two more games in the regular season.

It's incredible isn't it?

They actually want to reward weaker teams and weaker conferences. Everyone gets a trophy.

Why do you treat independents as a conference? That's beyond stupid. There's only a few of them and they barely play each other.

also, in this format, Ohio State would have no shot at a championship because they wouldn't be in the conference championship. Penn State won their division

finally, a playoff like this is going to take a lot more reorganization. It's pretty much the ultimate goal of conference realignment... 4 16 team conferences that act as a de facto playoff

The only way OSU gets in like that under this format is if they're bama apparently

My mistake, I took that from the B10 website that has Ohio State ranked ahead because of their overall. But my point still stands.

What is unfair or "liberal" about this format. It awards the teams for winning their division and conference. If Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Texas Tech, etc. wants to compete and feels they have a better chance in the Sunbelt then leave the the P5 conference you are in and go compete.
