I love Thomas and was saying a year ago he might be the better pro than Nabors. His target to catch ratio is insanely good.

That said, I cant justify taking him over Harrison. Mainly because Harrison has proven he can be a WR1. Thomas may indeed be that guy as well, but he has been with Nabors for the last two years.

I am just not big on Harrison. I watched Notre Dame, who has elite corners - maybe the best CB in NCAA, shut him down two years in a row.

He disappeared in games. But Notre Dame also made Caleb Williams look like a 3rd rounder. They had an elite secondary.

As an Auburn fan, I approve. Glad to see these fantastic LSU receivers move on to NFL.

Lacy, if he can get his head on straight, and Hilton, if he can stay healthy, are next up.

I'm all-in on Nabers WR1. I do think theres some bust potential there with Thomas though. Kind of reminds me of Breshaud Perriman coming out. Don't know who that is???? Exactly. Though he did stick around in the league for a few years, and his landing spot wasn't great.

His QB list was shite. I think MHJ is currently being overrated because people are acting like he's a Larry Fitz/Randy Moss hybrid, but I'm not sure BTJ is a better prospect.

One big positive for Thomas. Most mocks I've seen have him going mid to late 1st round. Odds are pretty good he will be drafted into a better situation than Harrison, Nabers and Odunze.

More from Simms

quote:

Malik Nabers is the fastest, most explosive, best route runner of this year's crop. If someone's in his face, he's running right by them. But can also run an intricate route from any position - X, Z, slot.
Ja'Marr Chase-ish. DJ Moore-ish.
#1 WR this year

quote:

Brian Thomas Jr. runs by EVERYBODY. Love how he uses his size so well to box out and get to contested balls. Extremely twitchy for a guy his size. And after the catch, he's angry. Looking to score every time he has the ball.
#2 WR this year

quote:

Marvin Harrison Jr has so much good in his game. He's NFL ready and will be a star. Catches the ball and gets up the field right away at an elite level. Would've been #1 last year. Just don't think he's as explosive or gets separation in the same way Nabers & Thomas do.
#3 WR

Harrison didn’t run at the combine?

No, neither did Nabers.

Simms didn’t have Garrett Wilson or Chris Olave in his top 5 WRs for the 2022 draft

Harrison is a safe pick. He will be a solid pro. But Nabors and Thomas are money type receivers.

I wouldn’t put Roman Wilson in the top 10 much less the top 5

This is what happens with players COMPETE! Brian Thomas could have easily sat out the NFL combine. Brian Thomas and Marvin Harrison have eerily similar meaurables (same height, same weight, hand size). But competed and ran a smooth 4.33 and looked great in drills. I hope he goes before Marvin

Did it hurt Chase when he didn't compete or play an entire season?

Top players sit out the running and drills at the combine every year and it never really impacts their draft stock to my knowledge

Chris Simms ranked Drake Maye as his #6 QB last week and now has Brian Thomas ahead of both MHJ and Odunze.

I've seen several respected actual Scouts (not just TV dudes) who have really questioned the Maye in the top 3 narrative. They just don't get it and think he's less of a risk a little bit back

This draft should be a good one to look back on with all the bust/boom prospects. Hoge doesn't like Caleb at all.

LINK

quote:

"The one thing, I can tell you this from studying him last year and early parts of this year, there's one thing that is clear to me: He is not special," Hoge told VSiN. "He is not special. There is nothing special about him. There is nothing that I would be like 'Wow.' "

Hoge heard the comparisons to Mahomes.

"No way," he said. "C.J. Stroud—he doesn't throw the ball nearly like C.J. Stroud does. He doesn't play from the pocket. In fact, I think he struggles throwing the ball off movement. I want to confirm that, but it's just nothing special."

Not sure I agree based on MHJr running 22.2 MPH during a TD catch but again, it won't matter as they will all have their shot

I think Marv is a very talented guy and will do great in the NFL, so don't take this the wrong way in that regard, but that is not really what separation means to me. Speed is great, but you also have to make that first move and be able to get off jams at the line. Speed isn't everything when it comes to separation, there have been TONS of lightning fast WRs that suck at getting separation and some WRs great a separation that weren't speedsters. It's about separating to get open, not separation once you have the ball and are sprinting down the field.
