New developments.

quote:

The Chicago Bears released their conceptual plans Tuesday for the development of the 326-acre Arlington Park property, which includes the construction of a domed stadium.

The Bears penned an open letter vowing to not seek public funding for "direct stadium structure construction" but expressed a desire to with various governmental agencies to secure additional funding and assistance for the remainder of the development, which would also include restaurants, office spaces, a hotel, fitness center, new parks and open spaces.

Where Soldier Field is is perfectly safe for Chicago.

Its not on the South Side.

Now where the White Sox play....

how long ago was it that the Bears were playing in Champagne b/c they were trying to fit a nice big modern stadium inside the tight footprint of the old Soldier Field?

The place is almost a hundred years old. Probably should have been razed fifty years ago.

I think they played in Champagne in 2003. Also, wasn't it recently said that the Bears may be up for sale soon?

This seems like just a way to boost the value of the team by showing they will have potentially secured a new stadium/land. Don't be surprised 8f they start trimming alot of fat in the organization as well to make the books look better.

Lawyers are already peeing themselves in excitement to represent the residents of those neighborhoods across the street from that location .

fricking Bears

I love Arlington. I actually wanted to head up there this weekend to bet on the ponies. It's great...you can take the metra and have a few beers on the way up, it dumps you right in the parking lot. It's a beautiful track.

The current stadium only holds 61,500 fans. It has the smallest capacity in the NFL. It’s also approaching 100 years. Despite a renovation finished in 2003, it needs work.

If only there was any way to know this when the design was being drawn up and approved

The stadium does suck arse though. The design is fricking ugly and there's nothing all that redeeming about the experience. Worst part, it's filled with Bears fans.

Do they plan on making a sports complex, like NJ did with Meadowlands and the stadiums/fields?

Really nice track, went up for Millions day a few times and had Dinner at Gibsons on Magnificent mile.

I wonder if this means anything for the Chicago Fire. They are moving from the suburbs to Soldier field, citing that being away from the city was difficult for fan support.

Wonder if they would also play in this new stadium?
