Playoffs should be the goal whether you're winning the division or are the 2nd WC team

Playoffs are the goal.

So was being reasonable in trading.

I don't think we had much of an option.

Sounds like everyone wanted Baez and not Castro.

If the last year and half is the real Castro, then he's not a ML level SS. We can't afford to move Baez if that's the case.

If the asking prices on Ross and Carrasco were reasonable, then some team would have acquired them.

We upgraded a 5th starter for nothing. All the other rentals (Latos, Leake, Price) had serious price tags. If we get past the WC round, then a 4 man rotation of Lester, Arrietta, Hammel and Hendricks can do some damage.

Yeah

I only advocated the Cubs acquiring players as long as it was at their price. A lot of big names didn't get dealt, showing the other teams were asking too much. Good for Theo

Toula, you'd rather Hendricks over Haren as a 4th guy?

Me too. I would have loved to get a quality pitcher that we could control but not at a price that derails the future. Congrats to them for being discipline. We will see what this year brings us and then take care of business this offseason.

Baw, Prior to that Rockies game, he had a 1.7 ERA in previous 5 starts.

It was more about Just making the point overpaying for another SP wouldnt bring much to the table.

We have two #1 options for a WC game. We just need someone not Beeler or Richards to eat some innings and minimize damage.

Hunter throws hard, but he is pretty hittable. He'll have his good and bad days, but is better than what we have.

I think Haren will fit well in the clubhouse. He's been much better in that huge home park in Miami. ERA is over 4.00 on the road.

2.71 Home 7 HR 11 games

4.16 road 14HR 10 games

In the last week, Brewers have traded Ramirez, Gomez, Browton, Fiers, and Parra.

We need to sweep.

I just read that the Padres wanted Starlin Castro in a Kimbrel deal but the Cubs said no.

Who knows. If it's true, could have been a money thing.

By all accounts we had $5M to play with.

Haren is gonna cost $3M (less whatever amount the Marlins sent)..not sure on Hunter, I think that's another million at least.

@LenKasper: Haren/Hunter added to P staff for stretch. Guys w/experience. Change of uni always fascinating thing. Hopefully both have good run here.

@LenKasper: Other key to those deals is that Cubs didn't give up potential core guys for future. That matters. This isn't 1-&-done window by ANY means

@LenKasper: I'm not surprised didn't pick up a bat. You've got half a lineup of rookies. Let's see them play it out. Great experience down stretch.

?

Why would I be upset about Lake.

Because I like Kyle Hendricks better than Dan Haren?
