So, with all the hype of Baez being potentially called up soon, could you imagine this freaking lineup:

C: Montero
1B: Rizzo
2B: Russell
3B: Bryant
SS: Castro
LF: Baez
CF: Fowler
RF: Soler

I know thats not his natural position but wouldn't you like to have him in the lineup over Coghlan?

Well shite, maybe not Javier Baez to remain in infield

Unless they want to use him as trade material I don't see the reasoning behind this. Baez in the lineup > Baez on the bench or in AAA

He will likely keep improving in Iowa. They need to see him sustain it. I get the feeling it is more likely that Castro gets traded.

Ultimately I think this is where we end up too. I hope it's not this year though. Need to keep our wily old veterans if this team is going to make a playoff push.

I'm also not ready to trust baez. Now if he could crush it at AAA maybe get a month or so in the bigs and crush it to where he's a viable trade candidate for good return I'm more comfortable trading him and taking the risk that we give up a future allstar.

Put Castro or Baez at 3rd. Put Bryant in Left like he did for a couple of games already and you fit everyone on the field. The real interesting question is do they try to get Schwarber up this year or keep developing him as a catcher for mid 2016? If he comes up this year then Castro, Baez or Russell or getting moved because you don't have room for all of them on the field. If they wait and play him as a C/LF and split time with Montero going forward then we might keep all 3 until the off season.

I'm all for that...but bryant has been pretty good defensively at 3b. Which makes moving him off (especially considering how much more value he offers as a 3b than a LF) tough.

I'm warming to the suggestion that they can do both. Bring him up if we're in a playoff push, put him in the OF and sporadic work behind the plate. Start next season in the minors and continue working on receiving.

Right now i'm happy with baez offering depth in case someone gets hurt. This isn't the first time he's dominated AAA. I do think it's different this time because he was basically brought up last year to fail so he'd realize the problems he had. Hopefully it's worked, but i just don't see a position on the field he can take from anyone.

Maybe bring him up if we have a stretch through AL games so he, or someone else can DH.

Baseball is about scoring runs and if we can put up more runs by having Baez in the lineup over Cogs or Lake then you do it. It's not like we would have a drop off defensively at 3B with Baez or Castro there.

Addison Russell is a great fielder and needs to be the SS in the future. Baez would make a great 2B. As far as Schwarber, if he makes.it to Chicago that's just icing on the cake. I don't really know how the Cubs will keep Castro hitting fourth. It's not working well. Montero really needs to hit there IMO.

eh...I think there is a bit more to it than that...especially when the team is a year ahead of schedule. At this point I'd almost argue that player development is more important than making a run for the WC2 spot.

No argument here. Even with a high K rate I'm really excited about this kid.

I hope he makes me look like a fool, i'm not in the trust baez camp.

That needs to change a week ago. I really can't understand why he's still in that spot.

I think the long term play is for Bryant to hit 4th but Madden is just getting him some good pitches to hit by slotting him ahead of Rizzo. Castro could end up in the 2 hole or even Russell in the long term. I could see a lineup like in the future

Fowler
Russell
Rizzo
Bryant
Montero
Castro
Soler

Yea I'm sick of letting teams into games late or winning games late because we don't have the arms. Who has value that we are willing to move at this point?

Let's talk about Hendricks. Two beast starts in a row.

That was a low profile Theo move that's forgotten by most. He was a return in the Dempster to Texas deal.

Did you all see this article on the Cubs / Mets trading? Pretty solid except for the last part.

just for fun

from a rangers blog 2012.

quote:

Per Evan Grant and Jason Cole on Twitter, the two prospects sent by the Rangers to Chicago in the Ryan Dempster trade are Christian Villanueva and Kyle Hendricks. My initial reaction is that this is a significantly weaker package than I would have expected the Rangers to have to part with for Dempster, although Villanueva and Hendricks are both nice prospects.

of course then they talk about mike olt being a super prospect and it became sad.

I am not entirely sure what I want, but I think I would prefer Schwarber in LF when he is ready and see if we can work something out with the Mets. Ideally, I would want to move Baez for Matz, but I cannot imagine the Mets would do that. If we dealt Castro, then I think we could get anyone but Harvey.

Regardless, this has been an excellent series, and I am psyched for the rubber game tonight.
