The Cubs are 10 games over .500 for the first time since...I have no idea. They just took five straight games, and got out of Milwaukee with a four game sweep of the Brewers (Why don't they just adopt the old "mb" glove logo and pinstripes? The current uniforms are pitiful.)

Did your heart stop yesterday afternoon when Kris Bryant headfirst slid into second base and got up after the slide (in which he was safe) and looked a little...drunk? Truth is he was tagged in the head, got up and wobbled a bit but by all accounts he's fine. He's going to be reevaluated today to see if he can play, but a DL stint was ruled out. Hopefully that still stands today. Even if he has to miss a game or two, that will be dandy and we can all breath again.

Miguel Montero and Tommy La Stella are inching closer to the MLB roster on their rehab comebacks. Joe Maddon already said Kyle Schwarber is up to stay, so he'll likely be eating into Chris Coghlan's playing time in LF. Coghlan will have to learn the versatility role and get used to random assignments in the outfield and infield if he wants to get some PT.

Tommy Hunter already appeared in a game this weekend and looked pumped for his new team. Dan Haren is expected to start Wednesday. Yoervis Medina was optioned to AAA to make room for Haren.

So, 10 games over .500 in August. If I offered you the over/under on that in Spring Training would you have taken the over? The Cubs just got better this past week, as well, and they are looking to get healthier too. Very, very meaningful games in Pittsburgh and against the Giants coming up for the Cubs.

Good news, Mike Olt is hitting well in Iowa again. He made it out of the nonwaiver trade deadline period remaining in a Cubs uniform. Perhaps we'll see him in September.

Nice run there, let's keep it going. We definitely had a bad stretch with terrible offensive production.

wouldnt be against Coghlan getting PT at 2B, while Russell plays some SS more.

Huge 7 games this week. Luckily, we get to dodge Cole and Bumgarner.

Baez still looking strong in AAA. Reports are they want to keep him down there and get more ABs. I'm certain he will be up once the rosters expand.

Looks to be alot of smoke on the Cubs interest in Chase Utley. Could be an August acquisition at minimal costs and bring another veteran presence with playoff experience to the clubhouse.

Russel bomb was a BOMB. He's hitting over .300 since the ASB. He and Schwarber are putting together solid AB after AB.

I'm sure I have more to add to this thread..but this is enough for now.

Your Castrotardness is getting out of control piggy.

You realize sliding Russel to SS and putting pretty much anyone at 2B makes us better..???

While that is true, someone has to be the opposite to you and lester. It's the role i'm willing to play. Can't let you all go bleedcubbie blue on us.

Russell will certainly move to SS very soon. But aside from backup qb syndrome believing baez is better im pretty confident saying putting utley at 2b doesn't make us better than leaving castro there.

ETA...also i wouldn't say it's getting out of control, i'd say it's out of control. I still see the guy who came up and took over SS at 20 years old and had tons of promise...and production.

Still striking fear in pitcher's hearts...never mind clayton richards being due up behind him.

At least you are admitting it. Dude, I'd love nothing more than Starlin to get back the production of 2 years ago. But at some point we just have to cut bait.

He just made his 18th error of the season and average is on pace to fall below the mendoza line by Sept 1.

With Baez, we know he's an upgrade on defense and in the "baseball IQ" category. I believe his production at the plate will at least equal what Castro is doing the last 18 months.

I'd be happy with April of this year. (And i know what you mean, but last year, not two years ago...two years ago was another bad one)

Castro is bad this year, no doubt. But utley...i mean if we're looking for another mr. intangibles, sure, but it wouldn't make the team any better production wise.

I'm ok with this sentiment, I just don't think age 25 is when you do that. At least when his value is this deflated (if it's flat (or next to zero), is it still deflated?)

Not really, it just looked like a bump on the head. Honestly, a day off might not hurt him. He's hitting about .180 the last month.

Miggy's a leader even though he's not hitting as well as I'd hoped to good to have him back, and I like Lastella's versatility.

He seem pretty average, but the way Motte has struggled of late maybe he'll be the finger in that dam for awhile.

Better than Wada/Richard/Beeler/Wood (and yes I know Richard did o.k. yesterday....it was Milwaukee.)

Olt's gonna have to prove it. I have seen nothing yet that makes me think he can be a consistent player at this level. Pulling for him though.

I don't know what all the test are etc. to get on the concussion DL, but any other 7 days that the ones coming up, i think i'd be for it. Just to give him a breather and see if it snaps him out of his funk. Ultimately i'm not worried about him, because he is amazing. And even though he only had 2 or 3 hits all last week, the one on monday proves just how dangerous he his.

We were at the game saturday and I was talking to a bunch of brewers fans about that. Most agree about the old logo. It's classic.

For anyone that's never been, Miller Park comes highly recommended. Great tailgating, great stadium, nice people, and a ton of Cubs fans in attendance.

A few pics.

I saw my first game at Miller Park this season...Cubs and Brewers. The Cubs lost and it was a rainy, cold day in Milwaukee when we went. The park was decent, but with the roof closed it looked like a very ordinary place. The facilities were all top notch though.

We always hold off until we know the weather is going to be nice, because the tailgating is so fun. The Cubs winning sure helps the evening too. Made the GF drive home, so the rest of us could put a hurting on the remaining beers during the ride.
