I'm not saying it was stupid. Or that I hate the gov. However, I defy you to show me how my watching a show that was not hosted in my area in any fashion other than channelsurfing cost any of the copyright owners one single fing penny.

It's not like he was charging people for viewership.

Would it be illegal for me to pay for a NFL game or another sports league game and view it on my laptop and use a detachable webcam to show a friend that I am watching the game? Same concept basically.

I understand copy right laws completely, but for just regular tv shows... frick that. I pay my cable bill, so I have no problem watching them online to see episodes that I missed.

it would be illegal if you stood to profit by it in any way. in the case of this website, by ad revenue.

Homeland security was also responsible for shutting down several hip-hop blogs not too long ago for posting leaks to songs and such. Just fwiw.

The material wasn't hosted on his site. Unless the owner's of google, yahoo, bing and so on are getting tossed in jail then this is just a witch hunt.

People who provide weapons or a plan for someone to be murdered, but don't do the actual killing should not be penalized according to this argument. I know it's an extreme comparison, and I don't like Channel Surfing going down either, but it's a flawed argument.

see i can actually understand that.. i don't think you should profit off what is not yours..

but like as far as me just showing something that i paid for.. i don't see how it's any different than everyone coming over to my place to watch it..

What is the difference between channel surfing and going to a bar and watching the game? You aren't paying for it either way.

that channel surfing website attracted viewers with the stuff they were making available to view. and because of how many viewers the got, companies paid the website to advertise on the website.

The UFC charges bars a commercial rate to show their PPV's. Their is a big difference to whoever is providing the content whether you watch online or in a bar.

I still fail to see how Homeland Security has frick all to do with the rebroadcast of mostly European soccer fixtures. It was my understanding DHS was for catching terrorists and preventing terrorists from striking the U.S.A
