Is there money to sign Parsons and Bosh? I know they moved Asik to clear some $ but I don't know the details of the situation

Morey also trolled Cuban by firing back with a max offer to Dirk

Rockets can sign Bosh to max and still sign Chandler, but Bosh has to be signed first. Rockets have only 3 days to match for Parsons. If Bosh doesn't decide (really LeBron) in the next 3 days, Morey will have a decision to make.

Only if they sign Bosh first

Interesting for sure.

A lineup of Bosh/Howard/Beverly/Parsons/Harden would potentially be the best in the league, but the bench would need a lot of help

Morey Masterplan to tie up Cuban's cap space for the 3 days that most of the mid-level free agents are picking teams while Morey signs Bosh and matches at the last minute. Rockets staaaacked and Mavs miss out on everyone again.

(Okay that's wishful thinking...)

Yeah it's the Larry Bird rule. You can go over the salary cap to sign your own free agents, but not free agents from other teams.

The silly part is: They can give Bosh a max deal now, then break cap to re-sign Parsons. But if they re-sign Parsons now, they can NOT break cap to give Bosh a max deal.

It's the same exact two contracts either way. All that matters is the order.

Yes, but they are on a timetable now. 72 hours from when that was completed. It is also going to mean that the Houston owner will be forking over a considerable amount of cheddar for the foreseeable future. I'm not quite sure how Morey could be so off on this. They went from having the best contract in the NBA to probably losing him for nothing. The obvious upside is that Chandler's new contract can be absorbed by Houston without salary cap limitations in a sense. That is a major advantage in retaining a player of his stature.

Morey essentially gambled that Chandler would take the hometown discount for them, after having already done so the past couple of seasons. This would allow him to squeeze in Chandler's new contract after landing their "big fish". He better pray they get Bosh soon, or he screwed the pooch big time. Parsons would have at bare minimum netted 1st round pick + prospects at the deadline this year for his measly $1m contract.

And Cuban's such a boss.

ETA: There is a reason everyone in H-town is flipping the frick out right now, and their precious Daryl Morey is actually being questioned for the first time.

That was the whole point of making him a RFA this year...

Because now they can potentially sign another player AND keep Parsons.

Morey has been questioned before in his go big or go home FA philosophy. But keep on talking.
