Chandler Parsons $94m contract is a disaster

The worst season of Chandler Parson's career may be over. According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, Parsons will undergo surgery on his left knee to repair a torn meniscus, "likely" ending his season. It's the third straight season-ending knee surgery for Parsons. His previous two seasons, both with the Dallas Mavericks, ended early due to knee surgery on his right knee.

The news comes at the worst possible time for Parsons and the Grizzlies, as the four-year, $94 million max contract that Parsons signed with Memphis last summer has come under fire, due to Parsons' play.

On Zach Lowe of ESPN's podcast "The Lowe Post," ESPN reporter Kevin Arnovitz recently argued Parsons may have been the worst starter in the NBA this season. Furthermore, fans have started to turn on Parsons. Ronald Tillery of Commercial Appeal reports that Parsons has been booed by fans at home games, due to his poor play. According to Geoff Calkins of Commercial Appeal, a fan recently pulled a prank on Parsons in which he took pictures with Parsons at a restaurant, then said, "Say 'I ruined the Griz season, baby!' catching Parsons off-guard. For the Grizzlies, there has to be serious concern about Parsons going forward. While he's undoubtedly naturally talented, after three straight knee surgeries, it's fair to wonder if he'll ever return to the player he once was. If Parsons struggled mightily to return to form this season, another setback could be insurmountable.

I would probably give anything to be Chandler Parsons. Dude got epically paid and is getting the money regardless.
And he might get more poon thrown at him than any other NBA player. It is kind of unbelievable.

I'm so glad the Rockets dodged the Bosh and Parsons bullet.
Bosh was going to Houston and Parsons would have been re-signed and the Rockets would have been locked in with that roster until Pat Riley came back and gave Bosh a 5-year max.
Bosh would have never played, Parsons would barely have played, players like Ariza would never have been signed in free agency, etc.
It would have been a disaster.

Parsons was a good player before the injuries but it is pretty clear he isn't the same player anymore. He will be out of the league after next year and will have enough money to do whatever he wants.

I remember reading an article about how quickly Mark Cuban and Parsons went from "best bros" to "you're getting traded" once his knee starting acting up around the time contract negotiations were happening.

That pic is somewhere in Houston. I recognize it. And it's driving me crazy not being able to picture where it was taken.

It's hard to be optimistic. Apparently all other teams had info that the knees were shot and the Grizzlies team doctors cleared him.
How often do we say "the third knee surgery should do the trick" and it actually work? I can't think of one. Sucks that this move basically ended any hope we had with the extensions of Marc/Mike.

Yeah looks like it. I worked some in that area, so I guess that is where I recognized it from.

Yet some criticize Kobes 2 year $48 million hometown discount where he was underpaid as the biggest road draw in the NBA.
" Sugar out" before I rant about Mosgov/ Deng 4 year $136 million

No, they were going to go over the cap to sign him if Bosh stayed. Bosh changed his mind and went to Miami. Houston signed Ariza and Morey said Parsons is the kind of guy that you want to draft, not sign. He was right.

The second he started doing modeling shite in jeans ads while he was in houston is the same time I started to waiver on this guy. He deserves all the criticism he gets. He's just a guy who is happy to be in the NBA, but not a guy you want on your team if you're trying to go places in the standings. He's got it good anyways I guess.

Yup, either minimizing your potential to be exposed to bad luck or positioning yourself to be good enough to capitalize on good luck.
