Bc his dad got hired and then fired....smart move huskies

quote:

Porter Jr., recently named the Naismith Player of the Year, committed to Washington last summer, two months after Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar hired Michael Porter Sr. as an assistant coach. Romar was fired last week after 15 seasons with the Huskies.

Also how does this not set off red flags for the NCAA about benefits for players? A cush job for his dad seems like an improper benefit.

Also I remember reading Brandon Roy was his high school coach, with him being a washington legend, why would they not hire him to retain this guy and the recruits to follow?

Didn't they have one of the best players in CBB this season and end up 11th in the PAC 12? I wouldn't let a recruit hold my school hostage for a coach in that scenario

ETA I misread. I thought he decommited bc they fired the head coach

yea fultz, just crazy that they knew firing the coach would probably cost them the top recruit, hell even LSU put up with johnny jones for Ben Simmons. I imagine one year of media coverage, ticket sales, etc is worth more than a few of mediocrity.

he's basically asking to be let go bc his dad was the assistant and would like to go elsewhere since his dad isn't on the staff anymore.....he may go to mizzou good god

Romar and Porter family are very good friends. Porter was a coach for Missouri womens bball team, and Romar offered him a chance at coaching on Mens side.

Porter(father) will be a coach for Martin and the Missouri mens basketball team. And His son is more than likely coming, as will the other son, who is a really good bball player.

Porters have 2 daughters playing at MIssouri and they are from and still live in CoMo Missouri.

Nothing Shady going on here, this isn't KU and hiring Danny Mannings father, who had zero ties to head coach, other than getting a job if his son went to KU>

True...

Because Billy Cannon signed with an agent before his bowl game.

Now you have to return your Heisman for stuff like that.

Well, seeing as how Lorenzo Romar tanked this year with the likely #1 pick in the draft putting up big time numbers in obscurity, I would imagine the powers that be at UW figured "what difference does it make if we lose a top recruit by firing Romar? He's already shown he can't do shite with a top recruit this year."

It's college basketball. If you're good fans will show up all season, if you're not good, after the hype dies so does the home court crowd.

Washington will continue to be terrible and it makes me happy.

Not egregious by cbb standards but if Porter Jr. was the 401st ranked player in the country Mizzou wouldn't be hiring Porter sr.

I always wondered what happens when the kids leaves for the NBA does his father just stay on staff? I always imagine the head coach telling the dad that they are gonna go after a qualified coach after his kid leaves.

Who did the houston cougars hire last year to get ed oliver? I remember reading he was the first 5 star to go there and it was bc they hired his dad or old coach or something. Sounds stupid for a recruit of that caliber to go to a school like that for a reason like that.

You're right, Cuonzo is just hiring him because he's a good basketball coach

Billy Cannon didn't need an agent, he made his own money.
