Teams/people that have shed the "choke" label in the last year.

Could Tony Romo be next if Dak goes down with an injury?

Eh, probably not. Seems like each major sport has its 1 chance.

Did anyone consider Villanova Ncaa chokers btw? Just wondering if you could add them

Not really chokers but definitely an unexpected champ going into the season. You could also add Coastal Carolina in with the unexpected champs this year.

I don't think so. I think people just thought they weren't very good to begin with and just benefitted from the old big east being no more

How were the Cubs "chokers"? They just haven't historically been very good. They haven't made it to the postseason too many times to even choke.

2003 was about the only time they "choked" being up 3-1 against the Marlins in the NLCS.

This thread is stupid.

Honestly, Nova did have that stigma, along with programs like Georgetown that you wouldnt predict past the second round of the tournament because of past play, but then again, because they really werent a huge program, in a huge conference, I dont think you'd really call them chokers.

Peyton didn't shed any label, his team won in spite of him. maybe 15 years from now people will forget that, but for the time being, I doubt that super bowl victory changed anyone's opinion of him, good or bad

Look, I'm not saying it was true or even fair that these teams/players were labeled with the term.

But if we polled 100 sports fan - "Name an NFL player you most associate with the term choke". Assuming Manning had lost last year's SB, I guarantee you the top two answers would be some combination of Peyton Manning and Tony Romo.

Same thing with college football. I mean "Clemsoning" was literally a commonly used term in the sports lexicon prior to this past year.

And I imagine the Cubs and Cavaliers would also be very high up there as answers in their respective sports.

Best part is its all the same people who called those above chokers, and at no point do they admit they were wrong. Nah, instead they just shuffle off to the next guy to call him a choker. Or they go with the "he figured it out" nonsense.

Good times.

Agreed, for those who put some thought into it, instead of just counting rings.

But for many, you can't discount him for being the best QB ever in seasons they don't win if you don't then give him credit for winning when he was no longer any good.

Everyone knows that Manning was cooked in 2015, but he is still an all-time great and the "choker" label was dumb as shite. It was almost like a lifetime achievement award. Manning is a two-time NFL champion, but that does not define his individual worth in the slightest.

I'm not saying Peyton manning was a choker, but if he was, last year wouldn't have gotten rid of that label

Coastal Carolina was a national seed a few years ago and basically host regionals every year with one of the best coaches in America. Once they got by LSU I had them as a favorite to win.
