Explain where I am wrong, jackass.

Until 1969, one team from each league went straight to the World Series. So in 1968, it meant that 1 in 10 teams made the postseason.

From 1969 to 1994, two teams per league made the postseason. 4 out of 24-28 depending on season.

Today there are 30 teams. 10 made the playoffs this season. This has only been happening since 2012, and Matheny's "record-setting" years are THOSE FOUR YEARS. In 2011, 25 percent of NL teams reached the postseason (4 of 16). Today it's 33 percent (5 of 15 since the Astros moved to the AL).

I guess Matheny belongs on the Mount Rushmore of baseball managers! He's the next Joe McCarthy or Casey Stengel!

Name the other managers in MLB who have made the postseason the last four years running. I'll hang up and wait.

Lol. Yall make a playoff and you're pointing out a losing record in 4 consecutive postseason appearances including a WS championship.

Edit: WS was under Tony in 11.

Does that sound as stupid to you as it does to me when you stop and think about it?

No idea. You've got an idiot arguing that four successive playoff appearances "doesn't mean anything." Is that your stance, too? Or are you taking a different idiotic stance?

You still looking through the last four years of the playoffs? Find anything yet?

I'll tell you what he won't find in that sample size...a Cardinals WS ring. Boom! Nailed you jokers good!

Okay????

So you're willing to hang your hat on the entire Cubs organization having more World Series championships than a four year manager?

FWIW, Joe Maddon has a losing postseason record, one more postseason appearance, fewer overall wins and the same number of pennants as Matheny in 12 years to Matheny's four.

He said I'm dumber than the average bear and nobody can prove that I'm wrong.

And yes, the statistic does mean nothing when the odds have ballooned from 10 percent in 1968 to 14 percent in 1993 to 25 percent the year before Matheny's tenure began to 33 percent when his tenure began.

In 2012, the first year of Matheny's streak, the Cardinals were the 5th team out of 5 to make the NL playoffs. In 2011, one lousy stinking year earlier, the 5th team DIDN'T EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.

You know why Sparky Anderson didn't make 5 postseasons in a row? Because in 1974 he had THE SECOND BEST RECORD IN MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL but didn't make the postseason because the team with the best record in baseball played in the same division, and only the 2 division winners made the playoffs. It broke up what would have been a 5-season postseason run.

In 2012 the Cardinals finished in 3rd place in their own division and made the playoffs.

So yeah, the statistic means nothing.

I think you're confused by the word "nothing."
If not, please point to all the other managers who made the postseason 4 years in a row under the new rules.

Lots of these statistics in modern-day sports means nothing.

I mean, you know why Les Miles has 7 10 win seasons and Charlie McClendon has none? Because in the McClendon era, LSU played 10-11 games (12 less than half the time) and modern day CFB, LSU plays 13 or 14. How can you argue that a Les Miles 10-3 season is better or worse than a 9-2 season in he 1960s? In terms of winning percentage, the latter are better by 5 percentage points.
