Can you really consider Lamar Jackson for the Heisman?

I know he's putting up "Godly" stats and all... but he did that last year, and the second he played a real team he only put -2 points on the board. The award is getting disgraceful in their inability to see past stats. We could have Guice run for probably 600-1000 yards and 8+ touchdowns, but we play in a conference where if he's not 100% just about every game it could cost us a W.

Yes, if he played for LSU and had those stats we would be printing shirts.

Last year he won the Heisman by scoring around 60 against FSU and a bunch in a close loss to Clemson. He scored a bunch against the teams he was supposed to as well.

The only game that could have cost him was UH, but it wasnt much different than ours....he was given ZERO chance to succeed by a stifling DLine effort.

Well, if he had to play the defenses of Auburn, Bama, UF, etc for an entire season and put up similar numbers, his stats would be more impressive.

ETA: Not saying there is anyone more deserving of the award, but if Shea Patterson keeps his production up, I'd be more impressed with him over Jackson.

Look, in NO way am I saying he's not an excellent ball player. I'm also not saying Guice deserves it, yet. I'm just saying, he plays Clemson and Florida State. That's it, besides that he gets to pad stats and plays absolute cupcakes. He couldn't get his team to beat KENTUCKY last year. Hell, Metteneberger had pretty close to the same thing and he wasn't considered for the Heisman.

Imagine Jackson in purple and gold playing against BYU, Chattanooga, MSU, Syracuse, Troy, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tenn, a&m. You really don't think he could put up crazy numbers against them with our talent?

Bama, Auburn, UF would be the challenge. I'd love to find out...

I really can't.

Yes, he puts up great stats against fair competition, but looks abysmal against legit defensive talent.

Alabama would embarrass him the same way LSU did. Baker Mayfield should probably be considered the front runner if we're not piggy-backing off last season.

Deebo Samuel of USCe is my darkhorse candidate this year.

Jackson has his work cut out for him, he almost has to outdo what he did last year.

There are a ton of candidates out there to push him even if he has one bad game -
Barkley at Penn St
Mayfield at OU, already with huge win on resume and they are talking about him all the time with the flag plant
Darnold at USC
RB's will start to emerge as well, Guice could blow up, a solid game against Bama with a win would elevate him at the right time as well.

The header for this is dumb, I'll admit. I'm just saying if the Heisman has become an absolute joke, you're going to give the Heisman to RGIII over Tyrann Mathieu. Tyrann was the biggest game changer college football might've ever seen. There have been way too many snubs, giving the award to QB's of lower tier schools with lower tier competition. Wait and see how hard he flops in the NFL like every other dual threat in the NFL except for Dak Prescott.

Close to what kind of thing?

Lamar in 2016
Passing: 3543 yds 30 TD 9 INT
Rushing: 1571 yds 21 TD

Mett's final year
Passing: 3082 yds 22 TD 8 INT
Rushing: -133 yds 0 TD

Passing yards, for playing harder competition. But then again Mett had Odell and Jarvis.

Every time they bring him up on ESPN radio or TV, they seem to forget the bowl game where LSU had him running like a scared 7 year old girl.
