Harper stepped out while that was happening, which was fine. Then was told to get back in and started mouthing back and SARCASTICALLY got in the box.

I love how you guys ignore everything else that happened up until that moment and exclaim that's a dumb reason to get ejected when it's been fully explained it was the tipping point.

I love how you're taking up for an incompetent, control-freak umpire

Somebody has to. We've tried telling you that both parties have some fault in this, but no, Bryce is a completely innocent bystander.

I asked earlier if he has a reputation and never got an answer. Is this based on this one incident?

We fully understand. What you dont understand is him being ejected from the game is still absolutely ridiculous

The ump was awful, just admit it.

Not any more than every other ejection that happens in baseball.

Everyone is acting like he was suspended for the year.

did someone else take off his mask while harper was in the box?

Maybe it was the catcher barking at the dugout...

Or are you talking about Williams and suggesting he should ignore a manager yelling at him?

That was certainly an option. On that realistically would've prevented the whole situation. Or he could've just tossed Matt, instead he gave us a show.

First of all, I disagree. Second of all, follow my arguments. I think baseball needs to fix this as a whole. Some of their ejections are crazy

Why is everyone hung up on him taking his mask off? This is pretty standard for umps to do even if it's just a basic conversation with a manager/ump.

Because he then yelled at a player for not being in the box that through his actions had caused the delay for the player to leave the box.

Do umps always engage a manager in the dugout who is bitching about a bad call?

I agree, but this isn't the worst example you can find. Harper did enough to get ejected, regardless of what everyone wants to admit. If the commish sits the umps down and defines the leeway they need to start giving everyone, that's another story. Baseball is the worst about unwritten rules, and one of the big ones is don't mouth off to the umps, especially involving balls and strikes. Even though most would say that was definitely a ball, that rule was broken, and things escalated. Ump can't get thrown out himself, so what do you do?

Of course it isn't. Umps are people who have bad days just like everyone else. And when those days happen they do something stupid like this and show their asses.

So what? Was there any moment where Harper motioned for him to put his mask on and THEN he would get back in the box? No, he pointed at it for some reason, and then did the thing.

Do we know what the ump actually said to Harper?

They at least tell them to shut the hell up. You'll usually see the manager get a warning glare, then the mask will come off and a finger is pointed. If it keeps up, then it's on. Umps don't ignore that crap. I don't know where everyone is getting that he should.

Suspend him two weeks without pay. And continue to so so until umps realize it isnt about them. To be ejected from the game needs to take an egregious act by a player

The issue is that baseball doesn't really have an escalating penalty system. It's basically verbal warning (maybe) then-boom-ejection.

Basketball you have to get two Ts, soccer two yellow cards. Football, at least at the pro level, almost never ejects anyone.

In baseball, ejections are almost entirely at the umpire's discretion. Pretty much the only cut and dry ejection is for throwing a punch. Everything else involves "intent."

I hope it was the 'magic words.'

The ump is there to call and control the game...not be the star. This guy didn't get that memo. Acted like an arse, and unnecessarily chased a player due to a situation he escalated. Is harper a saint...no...but he shouldn't have been tossed.

Well i look forward to a day when a manager can tell the ump to kick rocks and he doesn't retaliate by chasing a player.

I am saying instead of accepting the shitty parts of baseball, lets be proactive and fix it instead of saying "it's baseball." I mean geez, why are you so against taking steps to improve the product?
