I spent a week in Columbus, and 1 day each in Cinci and Cleveland. I can't say if it's like the rest of the state or not, but Columbus looked like a very nice city. Little construction, and the Buckeye campus is very pretty

Cinci and Cleveland certainly get a bad enough rep that I think the rest of the State just gets lumped in there with them.
Never been to CBus, know nothing about it other than the Crew and Blue Jackets and obviously those OSU bastards.
