Did anyone see where bama fumbled out of the endzone after a 40yd run, but there was a hands to the face penalty on Tennessee at the line of scrimmage, which resulted in bama getting the ball and penalty marked off from the point of the fumble. Was this the correct ruling? I've still yet to square in my head why the penalty wasn't marched from the original line.

That one made no sense to me.

They essentially penalized Tenn twice.

I too thought it was weird.

Figured we would just take the penalty instead of the play (which was a turnover).

The refs discussed it awhile and also with butch Jones so I'm assuming correct, but seems like a weird thing.

None of us knew what the hell was happening either, but it was apparently the right call.

Extremely weird situation.

UT's flea flicker was pretty weird too. Was it a flea flicker screen pass or did the WRs forget to run routes?

Live ball personal fouls are enforced from the end of the run.

The end of the run was the fumble.

Had it been an incomplete pass, it would have been marched off from scrimmage.

The more I think about it, the more I think that maybe the RB got the ball, saw the tide and said " frick that" and gave the ball back to the QB.

Something about the penalty is added to the posistion "at the end of the run."
The end of the run occurred where he lost the ball.

Further, there was a defensive holding call against UT, that did not result in Bama getting an automatic first down. It was 3rd and goal at the 6. Jalen runs to the 2 and defensive holding is called. Since it was a run, the yardage is added to the end of the play, whereas if it was a pass, it would be an automatic first down. so, strangely had jalen just thrown the ball out of the back of the endzone, Bama would have been given a first down at the 3. Instead, it ended up being 3rd and goal at the 1.

Wasn't it an illegal hands to the face?

Well, if that's what you call Tennessee's d-lineman molesting the Bama o-linan's face with his hands, then yeah.

Another strange one, Tennessee went offsides a bama defensive lineman moved the ball five yards back after the penalty was called. Whatever happened to a penalty for that?

I don't know if the WRs were running routes or not, but as soon as the QB got the ball back, a defender was in his face and he didn't have any time to throw.

There was another play near the goal line where Tennessee was called for defensive holding, but the refs didn't give Bama an automatic first down. Wtf?
