Villanova winning gives credit to the new Big East moving forward as a conference. This could be the shot in the arm that the conference was looking for to shed its old image and start a new one. Will this win give the NCAA a new perspective on Big East basketball as a conference? You know that the Big East officials were jumping around celebrating just like those Villanova students were!

Dan Wetzel had an article on this the other day.
LINK

There is something to be said for just hunkering down with what you do best (Catholicism and basketball) in the midst of all the megaconference insanity.

That's a good read. I think this really does help the Big East as a national brand. Ultimately I still think they could add a couple of schools to help with the depth of the league....maybe a combination of Dayton, VCU or St Joes. I think that could really strengthen the league. Big East basketball on the rise!

Dayton and St Joes definitely. They've already gone outside of Catholic schools for Butler, but I don't think they'll go all the way to bringing in a public school like VCU.

I think they stay at 10 - remember, it's a basketball conference first and I think they'll put emphasis on playing each team home and home every year.

They have language in their TV contact that provides for an extra 100M once they go to 12. It will happen.

Those are two TV markets they already have (Philly & SE Ohio). I think the bigger possibility is St. Louis University and then possibly Dayton.

SLU offers a catholic school with very good academics, a huge endowment, its own (very nice arena), and a regional neighbor/rival to Creighton.

St Louis would be a solid option, but Dayton (SW Ohio) is a quality program with a great following. I think the Big East wants legit basketball schools. Dayton has always been a solid basketball school and would be instant rivals with Xavier and Butler. It wouldn't surprise me if the Big East went South and after a school like Davidson.

Why would Villanova allow St. Joes in the Big East?

Why not? That renews the old rivalry between the Philadelphia schools. That would be great for the league!

There's nothing to renew. Philly schools still have the rivalry. St. Joes and Villanova played this year.

Yes. The main problem with Dayton is they already have that metro region. Why double down?

There really isn't any more room for a major football conference, so it makes complete sense what the Catholic 7 did. Good for them.
