Since they want what is best for the customer, then given they can't be fitted and takes 4.5 months to arrive, I'm sure they have an Amazon-like policy in case there are any issues with $500.00 shoes.

He's clearly tried to price these high on purpose, but Nike or someone should just come out with a limited release That's like $550 or something. It would completely crush them.

Shoes have a lot of price elasticity, which is probably why the major brands don't sell their shoes for $500 and there isn't huge difference in price between the best selling superstar shoes and your less popular shoes from lesser stars.

And people have argued that he's trying to create a luxury/status brand (e.g., Gucci, Mercedes), but I think this is a flawed approach given the demographics (teenagers, economic class) of the market and the frequency of athletic shoe buying (they wear down).

Rovell has really shown his ridiculousness regarding business as he is obsessed with branding and marketing. While those are important, you would think ESPN's business journalist would also consider the economics of the market and the various factors impacting it (piece, convenience, durability, supply & demand, etc.).

I think Ball has a terrible model in place right now, so unless the price comes down significantly, it will be a brand that is talked about but not very valuable financially.
