I view it as the networks being more realistic than anything...

as opposed to Tulane who fills half of 25k seats in football and has a decrepit old basketball gym. "Our best program is a stepping-stone job to UT. Pick us Big XII!"

Networks sound like whiny bitches and this is turning into a shite show.

The networks turned this into a shite show back in '11 when ESPN blew up the BigEast but did not blow up the Big12 along with it. Trying to have a mix of 12 team and 14 team conferences and only have a 4 team playoff will always be a shite show. The only way for this not to be a shite show is to go forward to 4 superconferences made up of 16 or 20 teams using scheduling pods and their champion goes to the playoffs, or increase the # of teams in the playoff to 8 teams.

At this point I am betting on a blow up of the BIGF'up before expansion.

Reasonable bet at this point.

16 team superconference and 8 team playoff is what it will be 10 years from now IMO. I don't see how big 12 survives. Okie lite and Oklahoma to the sec. Texas and Kansas to big 10. Uconn and nd to the acc? Profit???????

I was hoping the SEC would go east when it expands to 16 teams, but the ACC's GOR extension pretty much killed that idea. However as long as LSU does not get stuck in a scheduling pod with OU, and OSU I would be ok with it.

Negative ghostrider.

UNLV, New Mexico, Texas, and Houston/Rice to the PAC-12 to form the PAC-16.

The ACC already has the northeast covered with Syracuse and BC and BC hates the idea of UCONN in the ACC. Notre Dame and either WVU/Cincy to the ACC. Kansas and UCONN to the Big10, which finally renames itself the Big16.

Then the leftovers of the AAC, Big12, and Mountain West plus Army, Navy, and BYU form a football only megaconference with their olympic sports split into smaller regional conferences.

ETA: Then the playoffs expand to 8 team with 5 auto-bids (the champions of the ACC, Big16, PAC-16, SEC, and the megaconference) plus 3 at-large bids.

UNLV, New Mexico,

Do you realize how much schools like UC Berkeley and Stanford want to distance themselves from these schools? The Pac12 is only going to ever go after major state institutions, and only from states that matter. Oklahoma may get an invite, but only as a partner of Texas. UNLV? Never. Not a chance in hell.

Obviously, Oklahoma gets an invite to the PAC-12, but if (big if) the Big12 falls apart I do not see Texas and Oklahoma staying in the same conference. Plus the SEC is the only conference that would be willing to take OU and Okie State since we have now been shut out of the ACC. So I see Oklahoma going to the SEC. Kansas is a natural fit for the BIG since they have also been shut out of the ACC.

That means that to get to 16 teams the PAC-12 needs Texas plus 3 other schools, and here are their options:
Rice
Houston
SMU
TCU
Texas Tech
Baylor
Tulsa
Iowa State
Kansas State
New Mexico
Colorado State
BYU
UNLV
Nevada
Boise State
San Diego State
Hawaii
Fresno State

Colorado and Utah will make sure that CSU and BYU do not get invited, and then Cal and Stanford will make sure that Baylor, TCU, and SMU are not invited because they do not want any religious schools. UCLA and USC will make sure that San Diego State is left out in the cold. So that means to maximize media markets the PAC is left with:

Rice
Houston
Texas Tech
Kansa State
Iowa State
Boise State
New Mexico
UNLV
Nevada
Hawaii

Cal and Stanford will stil want to emphasize academics will still play a factor, but after culling the religious schools their influence will be limited. Academics will not be enough of a factor to force the PAC to take Texas Tech, which has no media advantages over any of the other schools since Texas is already joining the conference, go way out of their way to take Kansas State or Iowa State, or try to add Hawaii, and Boise does not have academics or media markets in their favor.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is $$$ and the best combo for that is Texas, Houston or Rice (I doubt a conference adds 2 new members in the exact same city), New Mexico, and UNLV.
