This did happen.
Olajuwon and the Rockets lost to the Celtics 4-2 in the1985-86 NBA Finals.
Now, Hakeem was only a second year player and not in his prime at that time.
He was only Akeem then. Not Hakeem....lol
Plus this is not the Rockets team i think everyone is talking about. They are talking about the rockets team that went back to back that everyone said the bulls could not beat.

Shaq/Kobe Lakers vs. Jordan/Scottie Bulls would have been epic.

Wrong as usual.

Kobe/ Shaq laker team would have taken a massive shite on any team lebron has played on.
Kobe/gasol team would likely do the same.
This!!!

The 01 Lakers vs 93/96 Bulls.
Also, if MJ stayed one more year we could've gotten the Bulls vs the 99 Spurs. That Spurs team was incredible that year.

Bulls did play the Lakers
The Lakers weren't the Showtime Lakers anymore at that point. Pat Riley and Kareem were gone and Worthy and Byron Scott had injury issues during the finals. The Lakers were actually the 3 seed in the West that season and the Trailblazers were the favorites to win the West.

It went 5 games (with the Bulls going 4 straight to win it).

Well the best matchup of all-time would have been the 1986 Finals.
'86 Celtics were at their apex, best team they ever had and maybe the best team ever...Bird was still healthy.
Lakers were almost at their apex but a year away...Magic was hitting his ultimate prime.
Celtics killed the Rockets 4-2...and they lost 4-2 to the Lakers the next year as an injured team.
But Lakers blew it and lost to the Rockets in the Western Conference Finals.
If only they had met the year before!
Bird and Magic never really met when both were at their peaks.

Great topic OP. Interesting to think about it.
I always thought it was a shame none of those Rocket teams played the Bulls.
Not the championship, but the 1996 Eastern Conference Finals between the Magic and Bulls was a potential great matchup ruined by huge injuries to the Magic (Horace Grant Game 1, Nick Anderson Game 3). Bulls easily won in 4.

No one actually following the NBA that season expected the 2011 Lakers to go to the Finals. Gasol was done, Odom was flaked out and injured (only played 35 games), Bynum had mentally checked out of the NBA and was injured half the season, and Derek Fisher just kinda stood there most games. They had no defense all season.
lolwut?
Gasol has his best full season as a Laker in 2011, and Lamar Odom played in all 82 games, starting 35 (much like he started 38 and played in all 82 in 2010). Their defensive rating was 6th in the league (4th in the league in 2010).
The Lakers were straight up annihilated by the 2011 Mavs, despite having home court advantage. They were 6 and 7 point favorites in Games 1 and 2, but lost by 2 and 12 respectively. They then lost by fricking 36 in Game 4. No one expected any of that.

Probably.

Perhaps in his first stint in Cleveland, but anytime after that LeBron's teams were better.
