Anyone have any suggestions for basketball plays for a 14u team? My first venture in coaching starts tonight with a "C" team for an aau program. Judging from the tryouts, there will be a bit of talent there; but coordination and basketball iq are minimal . Thinking a basic motion offense might be easiest, but figured I'd see if anyone else had coached kids this age and what worked.

The best play for my team of 14-15 year olds is "pass it to boomhauer and let him rip a three"

Sorry if that doesn't help

Barking dog play:

1. Your shittiest player gets on the ground on his hands and knees and barks like a dog.

2. Other team looks at him and is confused.

3. Your point guard drives to the basket and scores.

This is foolproof. Pat Riley taught me this play himself.

if you dont have a kid with any real size run a 5 man motion. We ran our base offense based on an offense mich St use to run but most of the time we ran a 5 man motion to get movement drives and 3's

Hi- Low against a zone

Not 100% sure what I've got just yet. I just knew going in that I was going to coach the C team, and from the tryouts I learned while there is some talent there, there was a serious deficit in understanding how to play the game. Several kids that I could tell would be on my team were confused by a 3v2/2v1 drill. Thus I'm thinking trying to teach a play or 2 to them might prove impossible; and so a basic motion offense just telling them to cut to the basket/pick and roll might be easiest for them to grasp.

Start with the fundamentals first. If they have a low bball IQ none of that shite is going to make sense.

Look up flex. Easy to run and very effective. I have a 5 out motion I use with my varsity kids that we use to open of driving lanes and get backdoor cuts. Against zone- short corner. Short corner also uses High/low principles of the ball enters to the high post first.

I like the looks of this. Looks like it should be pretty easy to teach too. Appreciate the advice guys...esp the Boomhauer and barking dog plays

, after seeing my guys at the first practice, I think it's going to be easiest to just tell them we are running a motion offense and to set off ball screens for each other. Any teaching of plays will more than likely confuse the hell out of them, and they will be thinking where they need to be the entire time and not playing.
